Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Saturday, October 18. 2008A few Saturday morning linksObama: "I will change the world." Good grief. If I said that, they'd send the guys in white coats to take me away. Who knew that the US Supreme Court defined "vegetable" in 1893? Is a pumpkin a vegetable, then? More press lies perpetuated. We expect this from politicians but not from the press. Well, I guess we expect it from the press now. How would Obama do with this questionnaire for national security positions? Quoted at Marginal Rev:
Credit indicators show progress. Good. That's the fuel for the economy. Obama mocks plumbers. Is that smart? Everybody appreciates plumbers. NYT digging deep for dirt on Cindy McCain. That is infra dig. Why do it? Is there no infra to their dig? Mark Steyn on David Brooks' "elite cocoons" and "conservative cocoons." One quote:
Why is the Left and the press going after Joe the Plumber so hard? Because the moment with Obama captured something important. As Cardinalpark at Tiger puts it:
Exactly. Joe doesn't want somebody else's wealth: he wants to make his own. Betsy says "Think of the film of Obama's photo op on Joe's street as Obama's macaca moment." Yes, somebody picked the wrong street. Interesting comments on Dr. Bliss' Influential Books post. I'd like to read more comments to that post from our readers. Comments

Good Morning BD. Where are the guys in white coats going to take us? Reeducation camps,or padded cells. I like the idea of padded cells.I can take my crazy pills, and bum some more off of Pajak, plus I get to wear my beanie cap with the little propeller on top. I loved how Pajak summed up if Obama gets elected "eight years of delicious crazy"
Off to another crazy house, my dad's. Just another weekend in paradise. Glade to see you like Emily too!! Re the illo: that's the most ludicrous concept of archery I've ever seen. The arrow is full drawn, the fingers are lax and misplaced on the string which isn't drawn back under the ear and the bow hand has a death grip. It is little things like this that remind me of how close to total intellectual collapse the country truly is.
Good Morning All.
In the case of Robin Hood. One must remember that while he had been away fighting for country the mean old king and the villanous sheriff of Nottingham who had been onerously taxing the people and conficating Robin of Loxley's property granted to him by Richard the Lionhearted, a good chap. I prefer to look upon RH as a "liberator" of the peoples money as opposed to a thief the first connotation closer to goodness. But liberator no no ChucK is right. Unless stricken some palsy and sight distored by an off screen naked Maid Marion in the illo RH is, well, just a mess with that bow. Think we, the people's money was given away to "Unfreeze " the credit markets and get things moving again?
This article from Blogging Stocks may aid us in brewing up the kool aid a great many on Wall Street and DC should imbibe in large quantities. http://tinyurl.com/6oajdd Where are the T-shirts that read, "I am Joe the Plumber"
I'll buy one if they're out there. Chuck, Habu - replacement for illustration here.
"Everybody appreciates plumbers." These days. When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's, plumbers earned dirt and were considered right above ditch diggers on the evolutionary scale. When I didn't want to do my homework, my mother would scare me by saying, "Do you want to grow up to be a plumber?" Then the concept of "professional services" went from someone who had a piece of paper that you didn't have (law or medical degree) to someone with knowledge and tools you didn't have, like carpet layers, electricians and plumbers. Twenty years after my mother's warnings, I was making $25/hr as a plumber and just raking it in. Life's funny, huh? Dr. M,
That was a much appreciated scene of Robin Hood. It had a beautiful girl in the scene tugging at our heat strings. Great empathy and concern from our champion for both she an dthe elderly man. The mist shroudling a clam lake as a boat silent approaches...very nice.. Is it the next scene where Robin Hood, flying an A-10 Warthog strafes the sheriff's men? I can't remember. But very nice , thx Joe's problem is not because of what he said. We all know it's because Obama The One, being without a teleprompter, unwittingly gave an honest response to Joe's question.
And since The One can make no mistakes, his followers, acolytes, and enablers must blame Joe, did blame Joe, and give us thereby more proof that they are Obama's brownshirt army of hooligans. And that broke out into the MSM. Old saying: When your opponent is about to, or does, shoot himself in the foot, encourage him to aim higher and use a larger calibre. Full-auto is also highly recommended. Remember last week when Kenya held Corsi, the author of a book about Kenyan politics and Obama? Check this video out. It's eight minutes but worth the watch - all the way to the end.
http://www.nextgenerationcorp.com/NextGenBlog/?p=68 By the way, Corsi was in the news for about two days. I have no idea what has happened with him. Kenya claims they deported him. Corsi was free to roam Kenya but was arrested as he walked into a hotel to give a talk on his book. ` I believe the en masse defensiveness about Joe The Plumber exhibited by the elites and their media allies has more to do with their knowledge, deep down, that plumbers- and many formerly so-called "working class" careers- have a better shot at a middle class lifestyle these days than does the average liberal arts/graduate degree holder, i.e., their crowd. It is just the simple economics of supply and demand- could BD attest to that given his recent adventures with tradesmen? I see it as bitter acknowledgment of reality, finding it unacceptable, and lashing out at same.
The elites have been indoctrinated to believe that "education" is the be all, end all of anyone's life achievements and goals but we all know that has been revealed to be just another myth, at least from the income standpoint, they perpetuate to keep the "Education Establishment" in business. Figures don't lie when you make the comparisons: The fact is that there are many so-called "working class" positions, which is what they used to be called, mostly skilled, which in many cases enable a person to earn a higher income than does one with a liberal arts B.A., Masters or even a PhD. We all know people like this in our communities- nurses, police, fire, contractors in the trades, airline pilots, IT people, industrial technicians of many types, accountants, beauticians, and many others too numerous to mention. I understand that this topic, i.e., the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to show a positive return on investment for a 4 year liberal arts degree, is touched on, among others, in Charles Murray's new book, "Real Education: Four Simple Truths For Bringing America's Schools Back to Reality", sure to be a "hit" with America's Education Establishment! A bitter pill to swallow for many. I see the Joe The Plumber derangement syndrome as evidence of this, hopefully the last stand of the NEA and others opposed to school reform and freedom of parental school choice. Meta,
A very good video. We will never know the answer. We know practically nothing of Obama due to his refusal to release any of his ...well you know the list, it's long. I believe what we are seeing out of the MSM with regard to polling is out and out lies in an attempt to demoralize the right and retard our turnout. However, I also am hoping that the Bradley effect is in serious play and when the votes are counted McCain will win. Either way, if McCain wins we will have riots across this country and this country will look like every African nation that eats it's own. That you can count on happening. If Obama wins the riots will also occur given the level of emotion developing daily. It is not going to be a peaceful country either way. I hope you have a gun and know how to use it. There are legions of those who will say that cooler heads will prevail. It might be so but I was in Saigon up until two days before it fell. I've seen rioting up close and emotion trumps the "cooler heads" in these types of situation every time. If I am right and the cooler heads are wrong , you lose if you are not prepared. If the cooler heads prevail you have lost nothing but anxiety. Place your bet. Habu,
Thanks. Yep, creepy video. I also believe the polls are stacked in order to demoralize us, but I'm of the mind that what takes place behind the curtains will determine the race for McCain. People all across the country are afraid to put up McCain/Palin signs! No problem with those who want Obama. The schism in our society will be brutal. If cooler heads prevail no matter who wins, those cooler heads will turn blistering hot for the 2010 representative elections. Then maybe you'll see outright revolt like this country has never seen. I think we'll be in revolt if Obama is elected within a year. He'll go after guns, he'll demand equal air time, and he'll get very chummy with some very nasty international thugs. He will pardon felons who have been incarcerated for crack sales , the old argument that whitey doesn't get jail time 'cause he just uses snow not crack.
Obama is playing some very uninformed voters like a fiddle. he's a radical who will help grow the Nation of Islam into a paramitlitary force.. This guy is a huge danger and his ego will just explode in avalanche of laws aimed at bringing down the house. He'll push too hard and meet with resistence he doesn't even want to think about. He'll be using Camp David like Osama Bin Laden uses the tribal areas of Pakistan to hide out in. We will see his true colors quickly. bush certainly didn't want a 9-11. We'll see who Obama sides with when Israel bombs Iran right after the election and all that will bring. One things for sure. It can't hurt our newly nationalized banking system and nationalized free market system. It just so unreal he's in the running. JUST GET everybody whose a Rep to the polls.. Good luck to us. P.S. I wish election results were held until the west coast votes are in.
` Habu,
Don't you think he'll make 'nice' at first? He's savvy enough not to want to alienate one-half of this nation: He wants eight years in office. The one thing that bothered me most about that WSJ article was that many of the things he will put into place can never be undone. If you're right and he does all that in the first year, this country really is doomed. But I remain hopeful that half the people will prevail and that he'll feel the urgent need to appease that half to avoid insurrection. (If he's elected, I mean.) ` Meta,
I think Obama is arrogant enough where if elected he will think he is there for life. For example, if Bloomberg can try to change the term limits rule for mayor of New York City, why not Obama for life as President. I may be paranoid, but I do not trust government to do the right things. I also believe that a Democratic government will in fact try to do the wrong things to entrench themselves in power while they can. Obama's ideas are from the radical left of the 1950s and 1960s. This may be one of the last two or three elections for that generation to exert its power. It is getting desperate. The development of that idea could take while. A long standing trope among some... but in my opinion there will be no 'every citizen' be prepared to use a gun scenario. That's pretty far fetched. If not for politeness I'd say ludicrous.
The country has only gone to war with itself once... when there were one or two extremely well defined issues to be settled. That is not the case today. Not to say that there couldn't be isolated incidences of random violence, riots, and general mayhem. Of course there could be such. But talk of some country wide insurrection or rebellion down to street level is paranoia striking deep. Or wishful thinking. Luther,
I do believe that rioting is a very likely outcome if Obama loses. How far the gun thing goes is more questionable. Nevertheless, I have already planned my work day to avoid the commute into and the day in New York on November 5. I agree that is a possibility Barrett. I said that. I think your precautions are well within reason.
It is the nation wide 'whatever' that I take issue with. Me too. The cities will likely see the worst of whatever happens.
I hope everyone keeps their heads on straight. The majority will, I think, as always.
