Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Yon

Here's Helmand Province. Here's Michael Yon's Death in the Corn, Part 1, if you haven't read it yet.

He is going to be in Afghanistan for quite a while, it would seem, and deserves our grateful support for his remarkable reporting - and for his courage.

Damn, that picture brings back memories.

I read some of this a couple of days ago. I remember him writing that morale in the British unit he was with was the highest of any unit he had ever visited.

Good to know that the Brits still have a few good men.

Michael Yon is the Ernie Pyle of this war and deserves to be in every newspaper in the country. I wonder why none of the conservative newspapers don't pick him up. Anyone know?

Me too. Funny - they told us at infantry school that criss-crossing belts of machine-gun ammo bandito style was a Bad Idea - doing it that way could cause the belts to jam in the weapon.

Of course, I never went to actual war, and that guy has been in the thick of things.
