We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
In order to understand where Barack Obama is coming from I think it is best to see what he has said in the past. I recommend checking out these quotes to help you make up your mind click the link above
Over at The Nerdniks Corner, Rich Lowry says don't focus on the speechability of the candidates, focus on the message. duh.
How does someone focus on speechability much less message when your speech is interrupted 97 times and crazy pink women do tribal dances down the aisle? There will be plenty of time during the debates for messageability.
Meta ... what wonderful supporters the Democrats have... "Crazy pink women who do tribal dances down the aisle." I hope the crowd control people threw their crazy pink butts in the cooler for awhile.
I was much touched by McCain's speech, especially toward the end. He was calling to us to return to our roots in love of country and our ideals. And God knows he has given a full measure of devotion to our country. I don't insist that my President be perfect, and agree with my opinions 100%. McCain and I have differences in how we want our government to implement the American 'dream.' But he comes a lot closer to what I think we need than the other candidate.
I was very touched by McCain's speech, as well. Especially knowing how uncomfortable he is in that venue, I even ached for him a few times. What a difference in watching Sarah Palin. I was by myself watching and wishing I had a six-pack and a bratwurst. I'm so excited about both of them and have to say that even McCain seems a little stunned by it all. He's not a glory guy, and I believe his humility is for real.
