We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Many people consider General George C Marshall to be a great American. Nobel Prize winner, architect of the Marshall Plan and first to be promoted to the rank of five star general.
Many do not realize that when he was chosen by FDR for the job of Army Chief of Staff he was only a Lt. Colonel and was promoted over 400 more qualified military officers, [400] That raised quite a stink and ruffled a few feathers. (Must have been one very rare flying skunk animal)
So when you hear criticism of Sarah Palin, remember that it isn't just time in grade that gives one the "right" to qualify for a position. When the Manhattan Project was presented to Harry Truman he was surprised, having been cut out of the loop for the entire development, yet he saved what is generally conceded to be over one million lives by using it instead of invading Japan. George Washington was 35 when he beat the British, Thomas Jefferson 32 when he wrote the Declaration of Independence, and Alexander Hamilton was only 27 when he went 32-1 with the New York Yankees (ok you are paying attention)….. I think she'll show the world what she's made of when she shreds Uncle Joe in the VEEP debates. Plus how many eyes will be on her as opposed to Hair Club Uncle Joe.
For a nice contrast to the above video Hot Air's got one of Biden stumbling around in PA kicking off their campaign tour. Looks like he may have had a few too many from the mini-bar on the Obamabus. Sarah's going to clean his clock in the debates.
George Washigton was 44 years old in 1776 when he beat the British. He had little experience as a general leading an army of rabble but managed to beat, with a volunteer army, the most powerful armada EVER sent forth at that point in history to subdue a foe.
Sadly, he had no commmunity organizing skills on his resume.
Good point, Katy. In modern times we have people like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, John Kerry, Chucky Shumer and a host of others that are living proof that experience is no substitute for leadership.
