Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, August 29. 2008A bold and ballsy SarahJust what I hoped for from McCain - a bold and ballsy and politically brilliant pick. Changes the whole dynamic. Not that I do not appreciate the other choices, but I did not want to see Mitt (who I admire a lot) up there. Put Mitt in the Cabinet - anywhere, and he will do any hard job for our country. Just keep him away from the medical. I never met anybody named Sarah that I didn't like, and this Sarah is full of beans. The un-Hillary, too: she's neither angry nor bitter, and doesn't resent being female. Good on you, John. She was my choice, too. As a clincher, she's a Lifetime Member of the NRA, and her hubbie is a dog-sledding Eskimo. What more could you ask for?
I want to be "on my own," and I suspect Sarah does too. This pick leaves Obama's pity-pot, America-hating whining in the dust-bin. McCain isn't perfect but he is a fine man, and this Sarah is a super-fine lady. It's the winning ticket: bet on it.

1.Smart
2. Tough 3. Easy on the eyes. Should be a landslide in November. I think Gov. Palin is the BOLD choice, which is so indicative of McCain. She will agree with him on issues much more than she disagrees with him, and where she disagrees, she is more conservative than he is.
Although many may say that she does not have the experience necessary for the job, I would venture that she has MORE executive experience than Sen Obama or Sen Biden; retired CAPT McCain had more executive experience BEFORE he ever became a legislator. Even the supposed "investigation into allegations" of undue influence in the matter of the firing of her sister's ex-husband would likely elicit more sympathy from many women, since there is documentation of abuse by her ex-brother-in-law (I'm sure we'll hear more about this) But this also brings many of the moderate women voters who may have wanted to vote for Sen Clinton into the Republican tent. There was only one choice that I thought would have been even bolder; Michael Steele, former Lt Gov of Maryland. All of these VP candidates would make excellent choices for various McCain cabinet posts; Sen Lieberman, Sec State; Gov Romney, Sec Treasury; etc. She likes to hunt moose! This is not a woman to be taken lightly. Plus she has more governing experience than Obullsh*t, who's probably never held a gun, fishing rod or a wrench in his life.
An independent, western frontier, executive/governing republican -- and cute, too. wow. I'm impressed.
A little surprising, isn't it? Senator McCain is often trying to erase himself, but this is a good choice. There may be some hope for him!
As far as "impressed" goes, I'm gonna have to say "me too." And I say to all the Hillary feminists, yes, I'd love to see a woman in the Oval Office, just not That Woman [Hillary].
Palin has more governing experience than either Hillary [being First Lady does not prepare you to be President] or Obama, who has never run a company, never run a city, never run a state. I hope and pray that Palin will never have to take over the President's chair in the next four years, but I'd be more comfortable with her doing so than with many others. I like her CV. She seems to be tough but fair. What more could we want in a VP? Marianne A choice very much inside-the-loop, fighter pilot-wise.
When people kept floating the Lieberman idea, I shuddered. Joe L. might make a good SecSate, because that is the area where he most agrees with McCain and has the training and temperament. But VP? Palin, OTOH, would not be a good SecState match. The parts aren't interchangeable.
Sarah Palin is a great choice. Harumph! HARRFREAKINROOMPH! I am VERY disappointed to see all this talk of bold BOLD BOLD. I thought shirley I was the only SFB to quickly recognize the boldness of this.
It'll be interesting to see if this move was the MOAB drop the fighter-jock needed to clear a landing stip outta nuttin' but jungle. Going out on a limb here... but she's H-O-T.
I'm in.... er, uh, ready to vote for McCain, I mean. I don't mean slutty or sexual- just the stuff you guys are all so polite about- Well, f that, that stuff makes her HOT. This is too juicy for a few reasons, no pun intended. This just begs the press to mention the word Obama had such a hard time pronouncing the other day "Experience". Go ahead, make my day. Let's talk experience. Not to be too cynical or negative, but I have already heard (from a Marine no less) that she doesn't have any experience from 2 years in office, and "at least Obama is a Senator". Huh? So some people have no idea what a "governor" is.... I hope not too many. "at least Obama is a Senator".
In theory, possibly. But one needs to be present, now and then, in the Senate and actually vote on occasion. Senator Absenteeism shows up in Washington I believe only on odd weekdays when cherry trees are blossoming. In Springfield, he was good for leading the charge to slaughter children who were accidentally born instead of aborted. What experience? As they say, or did, on the street, "shuck and jive." Governor Palin is an outstanding choice. She's also an executive and not a mostly absent legislator. Palin is such a thoughtful and exciting choice.
She is a woman a man can love too - NOT a member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuits... A person who deserves serious consideration by any standards. I've considered and I am in! Obama: Pavarotti sings "Row, row, row your boat".
Palin: "The Barracuda" has entered the lagoon. She's a woman who did a good job by doing a good job, not by grievance-mongering. I'm crazy about her. I love that she put the ex-governor's private plane up for sale on eBay. The woman knows how to use a gesture.
She's the anti-Professional Victim. And the McCain website is so swamped by people (like myself) trying to log in and make donations to mark the occasion that it's turning people away. Hats off to Dr. Mercury. Who picked Sarah Palin two months ago, right here on Maggie's Farm. A beautiful woman, with great credentials. McCain will win by eight to ten points come this November.
Not that this should matter, but she looks like "the other girl" in all those movies. The one who starts off in the shadow of the prettier, blonder friends. The one always has a lot of books that she drops on her way to the French Club. But then, halfway through the movie, she ditches the glasses and literally lets her hair down and then becomes homecoming queen.
The Mac is Back! Sarah, a real man's woman! We like her here in Calgary Alberta because she is like our best. What's not to like with this can-do positive freewheelin, moose-huntin', flute-playin' dynamo?
Yeah...I caught some of the talking heads mentioning her "lack of experience" being a governor for only two years or so. C'mon! When the tough decisions come down, governor's can't vote "present"
Not to mention, Obama's only been in the US senate since 2006 as well, and I'd make a good wager that Palin actually worked more of those two years than did Obama. This race has lacked executive leadership credentials since it was down to McCain, Hillary, and Obama. (What was Obama thinking taking Biden for VP?!?!? TWO senators on the same ticket? Not a smart move, IMHO.) The choice of Palin for VP is nothing short of a brilliant move on McCain's part -- and like many who post here, I'm not exactly a McCain fanatic. Made my first contribution to McCain today. It's something of a risky pick to be sure, but it's excited me personally. Her record is as anti-establishment and liberty-driven as any Governor I've seen.
