We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I am part of the Dylan underground. I send your trenchant yet subtle posts to my friends then quite innocently offer to send them YouTube links to the songs. I've changed a few minds, but more importantly I've opened some eyes. And given some happiness. Feels good.
A touching essay, and written in a very tangible style. Thank you. It got me thinking about the handful of friends I have not heard from, despite my occasional reach-out. I pray the lack of response is not due to some malady, but rather due to my insistence that they take a fresh look at Dylan through the lens of, for example, Francis Beckwith...
