We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Kuwait on alert

We are advised to avoid posting�breaking news here so as not to create the expectation that we will�do that (ie, it's not our "mission" as a website to be up-to-the-minute with�news, but just to post what we find interesting, when and if we get around to it - and we're often off-duty on weekends), but sometimes it's irresistable if I happen to be at my desk:

I have a deal with Putin in mind: You give us Iran, we'll give you South Ossetia. And we'll�let�China have Somalia�to shut them up. Nothing for Europe: they're happy with what they are...aren't they?

I just cut that link for Buddy, NJ. Good catch.

I think we should give Russia Obama and tell them both to shut up. China already has Somalia....all China needs is for us to shut up. Deal!

One good thing to come out of this mess - it will showcase McCain vs. Obama on what they would do if naughty Putin had done this under their watch. Harumph....

McCain's been all over this from the get-go, issuing statements and holding press conferences. Obama's read a couple of boilerplate statements and has been hiding out ever since. Guess he's afraid he might have to face reporters without his TelePromptor.

You are quite right about our so-called mission, NJ.

But it's fine with me, as long as nobody ends up thinking of us as an up-to-date news site - because we will surely let them down.

Plus our readers, fortunately, post newsy comments when necessary.

Sounds like Iran is about to enjoy a naval blockade from a huge multi-national fleet. Kuwait is getting ready for when they start flailing about like a drowning man.

I am just an old soldier and Marine, not a diplomat thankfully. I say give Putin a ring of angry NATO backed countries around his neck and let him choke. I like how the nations the Russians bullied in the past are the most resistant to them now. Russia is a pitiful, shrinking country run by criminals; hopefully this is their last hurrah.

As for Iran, I hope we can find a way to cause the mullahs and Revolutionary Guard who run the place to fall. The Persians seem like a good people with a really bad government.

got it Darcy --thanks. More confused then ever, of course.

There is one clue in the JPost:

"...Shortly after the report was published, Iran navy commander Ali Muhammad Salami announced on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic's navy would conduct its own exercise...."

Clearly, Salami intends to occupy the Sandwich Islands.
