We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I say that in real-world terms this is hogwash. I was around in the early 1960s. My minimum wage job paid a dollar an hour and gas was less than 20-cents a gallon, so let's say you could buy 5-gallons of gas for my hour's work.
At $4.00 a gallon, minimum wage would have to be $20 an hour to be as "affordable" - and it ain't. In fact, I make far above minimum wage now and don't make $20 an hour - at least not when considering how many hours I actually work.
