We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Strangest News du Jour

Obama has Kenyan citizenship. OK. That clinches it. Now I am definitely voting for the guy.

After all, we're enlightened and sophisticated internationalists, and it's about time for a Kenyan, right? An insider Chicago Machine pol community activist left-wing Kenyan with special real estate deals from now-indicted Rezko, of course. The kind of Kenyan that wants Crony Capitalism for himself, and Socialism for me. Same as all the limo Dems like Kennedy, who keeps his investments offshore unlike us regular folks who invest normally.

Now back to my gardens if I can walk at all after my grueling tennis match in which I served far too many serves, on the most beautiful day of the year. We did win. We do not believe in losing, even if we have to win ugly with backspin drop shots and nasty angles.

We could have easily beaten Mr. and Mrs. Obama with our tricksy ball control and our deep topspin slammers that bounce like crazy fiends.

He's lucky he didn't get his brother's name. Obongo Obama wouldn't get very far. The MSM will bury this just like they did with the Edwards affair. Hopefully Edwards will just go away but politicians are nothing if not shameless so he'll probably pop up again.

BD ... Obongo reminds me of that great little song with the chorus line "Bongo-bongo-bongo, I don't want to leave the Congo, no-no-no-no-no-no."

How come someone hasn't questioned Obama's eligibility to become President of the U.S. if he is also currently a citizen of another country? Sounds hinky to me.

And then, if he loses in a close one, he will have his supporters go on a killing rampage, just like his spiritual god-father from Kenya, Raila Odinga, did.

Of course here the Obama supporters don't have guns. So that might not be the wisest move on his part...

i call it the "ugly but effective shot" never had a problem with it as long as I was in the win column and i use it in golf. glad you had to serve a lot because it is such a good feeling to win a long serve game. wish i could still play tennis but such is life. obama what a character and we may be calling him Mr. President very soon if McCain does not hire a real campaign manager!!

It's like the Democratic Party went on a binge and woke up the next morning in bed with their new candidate thinking, "What have I done?"

Hilary supporters are shaking their heads asking how anyone could get drunk enough to wind up in the sack with Mr. Gaff-O-Matic.

Meanwhile, the hardcore Kool-aid drinkers are sitting on the front lawn singing in unison, "Light of the world, shine on me Love is the answer Shine on us all, set us free Love is the answer"

Obama's half-sister Auma is quite pretty, I think.

The burning issue with some people (so I'm learning) is not whether Obama has dual citizenship but whether he is a "natural-born American", which is the prerequisite for becoming President. As was explained to me, the issue arises because only one of Obama's parents, his mother, was an American citizen when he was born, but she was not old enough at the time of his birth to qualify him as a natural-born citizen, according to a reading of US law that was in effect at the time. Since I'm not a lawyer, I am in no position to judge the validity of the arguments that were presented to me.

That only applies if the child is born outside of the US.

Sean ... if by "he" you mean McCain, military base properties, like embassies in foreign countries, are considered to be American soil. On top of which, he was born to a father who was a native American citizen and who was serving in our military at the time, and a mother, who was also native-born American, who bore her child on "American soil" as defined above. His parents were also legally married, and I understand that Obama's father had been married in Africa and not legally divorced when he supposedly married Obama's mother, but that's another problem which the lawyers can deal with.
