We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Iraqis were most surprised by Obama's apparent readiness to throw away all the gains made in Iraq simply to prove that he'd been right in opposing the 2003 overthrow of Saddam Hussein. "He gave us the impression that the last thing he wanted was for Iraq to look anything like a success for the United States," a senior Iraqi official told me. "As far as he is concerned, this is Bush's war and must end in lack of success, if not actual defeat."
What are we going to do about UFO's? I think this is a serious question. They abduct thousands of us every day. Why would it be so hard to zip up an anti-matter bomb in one of their victims?
Hopefully they'll also be addressing the threat posed to national security by the re-animation of fossilized trilobites. And what about Dracula? Or Big foot? These are serious questions. More serious than the perspective of a presidential candidate. I mean that's not news. Besides he's biased. He believes he's the best man for the job.
Just absurd that Democrats are expected to gain in Congress. It's no wonder, though, given the defeatist attitude/conventional wisdom shown by Congressional Republicans and Inside The Beltway cognescenti, a/k/a "political consultants" and "pollsters", losers all.
Here you have Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, the two worst congressional leaders in my lifetime, with the possible exception of George Mitchell, just total idiots, with the lowest numbers ever recorded in the Gallup Poll, and still the sorry Republicans can't beat 'em. Just pathetic.
They shoulda hired Newt to show 'em how it's done. One thing's for sure: Time for a new broom to sweep clean the Inside The Beltway Republicans who act too much like the totally corrupt Democrats. Bring back the Spirit of '94 and the Contract With America.
