Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Mapping Manahatta

What did Manhattan, or Manahatta in the Lenapi language, look like in 1609 when Henry Hudson arrived? It is often forgotten that NY Harbor is where the Pilgrims were headed. November storms interfered with that.

Clint Eastwood had a great line in "Coogans Bluff."

As he looked at the NY skyline, a woman asked him what he thought. He said something like:

"I'm trying to imagine what it looked like before people came along and screwed it up."

I often have the same thoughts when looking at landscapes.

Before people came along it wouldn't look like anything that could be communicated, nada (as in zero), unless fewed from a alien spaceship.

But then MF's yanks r minded, that there is no such reality (as in zero), or was that just the editor?
