We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
On the first class of my first semester in nursing school, the professor was naming the leading lights of nursing from days gone by, as examples of the nursing ethic. At her mention of Sanger, I nearly choked on my Starbucks, looked around at the diversity of my 64 classmates, and raised my hand. After 'splaining my problem with using Nurse Sanger as a role model, most notably because of her fondness for eugenics, fascism, and other forms of Socialism, there was dead silence in the room. There were also the twin stilettos of the Perfessers eyebeams, drilling down to the core of my unreformed brain.
Guess who was the instructor for my obstetrics rotation! Yup, and Perfesser Planned Parenthood pointed out to me on no less than three occasions that I might be called on to counsel patients, and assist at their elective abortions during my career. For revenge, I gleefully pointed out her one error in referring to an unborn human as a "baby", rather than a fetus, and thus remained at the top of the sh*tlist for another year until graduation.
