Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I support the use of DDT, Agent Orange and napalm on Maggie's Farm - weeding is such a pain after all! - but concede that it may make it difficult to obtain Vermont Organic Certification.
But I still remember those early days well, back when the Farm was just a little organic operation, and before Bird Dog joined the ranks of Big Agriculture. In fact, I just came across an old photo of BD from that time - he's the one on the right, obviously. Those sure were some good times! ![]() And I think that was also around the time you decided to save on money by not going to the barber for 14 months straight! Until you got your beard caught on that raspberry bush, and we had to cut if off, finally.
but who's the one on the left?
and thank you for the "new opiate" piece! oh, that's going to come out of my mouth at the wrong time at work, and i just don't care. you'll accept responsiblity if i get fired, right? : ) Please tell me the other person next to BD is not Gwynnie, because I have her looking as HOT as Meta.
Let's see:
Corn is about $0.10/lb. About 6/10 of a Penny/oz? How many ounces do suppose is in a tub of popcorn? This is a fact: The Paper in the Tub Costs More! Honest. Of course, popcorn sells for a skosche more than field corn.
"This year, we've paid the highest price ever that I've contracted for, 13 cents a pound," compared with 9 cents per pound last year, Kunnemann added. The family-owned company in Imperial, Neb., has passed its cost on to customers by signing new contracts for between 18 and 20 cents a pound, up about 40 percent from 2006. http://www.boston.com/business/globe/articles/2007/07/11/popcorn_prices_explode_by_40/ Do you ever feel like you've been had? Farm Organic. Reduce the world's population through starvation. Save the rainforests. Stop global warming. Save the whales. Save the polar bears. Save the Giant Palouse Earthworm. !!!!!
can the worm eat the dead people?
Can it ever! Most efficient recycler know to man! A reputation since the days of Shakespeare, and before! Bob, they have trouble with anything plastic, as far as us humans go we're all worm food. Their droppings are the best to grow other plants/ crops.
"Is Dubai the new world center of finance?"
Quite likely. It's a subject I have a modest connection with, and the place is more purely capitalistic than this country has been since the days of New Amsterdam. (Once they rebranded it as NYC, it was all downhill from there.) However, your link does not work, so I cannot comment further. Never mind - the site went away, but it came back. It's a techie thing no doubt.
''What the heck is a "non-profit" anyway?'' Heck, i've started up 4 or 5 of 'em -- it's EASY to be non-profit
I once had a house in the rural parts of Litchfield, CT. The yard went right to the edge of a vast plot of butter and sugar corn planted right up to the line.
My corn then was $00.00 per pound and it was very fresh. One thing about raising wheat, usually a non-profit enterprise--it's harder to steal than corn.
