We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

That semi-shade border

For readers who remember (or care about) the shade perennial border that I was working on finishing up last spring, here is about half of it, one year later, from two angles. (Sorry about my lousy photography.) I am pleased by how well it is shaping up after just one year:

BD, nice job, plus I don't see anything wrong with the photography. Make sure the ornamental grasses get at least half a day of full sunlite. Looks really nice!!

I agree with japs, you did a great job. Did you put in timed irrigation? How about timed misters for the ornamentals?

Regarding the photos, the quality does seem to be lacking a bit. Either you're using too low a setting on the camera or over-optimizing them during the save, or both. If you're using the "most pictures" setting on the camera, kick it up a notch. If there's some kind of "Low-Medium-High" quality setting during the transfer process, kick it up. That whole "low quality" thing is a holdover from the 56K modem days.

Any thoughts on a ground cover? White rocks, gravel, coral? It's a little messier, but tanbark has a nice look.

That was some hard light to be shooting photos. It's a time of day thing, but given the particulars consider that you didn't block up your shadows and you didn't blowout the colors in the full light. I would call that a success.
