Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Monday, May 26. 2008Holiday afternoon linksWhy I won't support McCain: Hawkins. He is way wrong, but nobody listens to us blogophiles anyway. As I have said, there is only one person out there who agrees with me about everything, and that is me. Freedom is about arguments. How Obama will free Cuba. Not likely Climate change crisis, on Jupiter Dick Martin died. Debating George Soros' ethics. Luskin. We call Soros "Dr. Evil." Does the Stockholm Syndrome exist? Probably not. (h/t, Dr X) Americans will die for freedom. Anchoress A tribute to the Confederate cavalry. Listen to the tune: "Jine the Cavalry." Rabid Lefty responds to the George Packer piece (h/t, Insty). She sounds mad as hell. A hoax, or terrible insomnia? A reef cemetary. They expect it to become a big tourist attraction. Minnesota's earthworm problem. First Moose, now Beaver. Scotland is going to become interesting. But why only 4 families? Also, I didn't know that beaver lived in Europe. Just had to re-post the link to P.J. O'Rourke's commencement address. Does Obama understand the Constitution? Jennifer Rubin at Pajamas Why Texas doesn't like biofuels. Despite our well-informed commenter who likes biofuel, I remain unconvinced. They are more polluting than gasoline, they are edible (well, drinkable) and they drive up the prices of food. A gaffe, an absurdity, and a policy. Krauthammer This worth re-linking: Can 32,000 "deniers" all be wrong? Will the MSM take this story on? Take a walk in the woods. It's good for you. Millennial dreams, fears, and aspirations The crime of being white. Selwyn Duke. It's my parents' fault. Jimmy Carter on Iran: Give them uranium. You can't make this stuff up. “Y’all don’t have to say thank you. Just go ahead and live your life and stay out of our way and we’ll get the job done.” At Jules It combines two of the most popular Eastern US games. What's the name of that game, below? Ask Tiger. Now I return to the tennis courts for the second time today, which would not be feasible to play on horseback. Not one more minute indoors today.

Many of us here in the Palouse would gladly send Minnesota some Giant Palouse Earthworms, which the greenies are trying to list as endangered, to drive us out of business, if we could just find some.
http://www.palouseprairie.org/invertebrates/palouseworm.html Great linking!
Here's wishing all of the folks at Maggie's Farm a peaceful and relaxing Memorial Day Holiday! President Carter, who supports Hussein in '08, wants to give Iran nuclear fuel not uranium, NJ.
They have plenty of their own uranium. He wants to jump start Iran's fission capablities. US should bunker bust Iran's nuclear sites not enhance their capabilities. Jimah Carter is A: A lousy peanut farmer. B: A lousy former POTUS. C: On crystal meth. D: Needs to be seen by a whole team of psychiatrists. E: Is a complete MAROON, who still sees rabbits attacking his canoe. News Junkie you're right you can't make this stuff up!!!!
I thought Carter looked pretty good in there, fighting off that rabbit.
I have a great Killer Rabbit pic, but no matter what i do, no matter how many ways I try to outhink the Spam Killbot, all i ever get is this (in red):

Is that one of Theo's babes ,or is that Habu showing pictures of Mrs Habu. You one lucky man Habu, and thats all I"m going to say about that.
Well I don't know about Habu being a lucky man anymore, unless He considers himself luckey to have a wife that can out bench press him.
""The Bible is very clear about one thing: Using politics to create fairness is a sin.""
The dauntinging reality is yall, silver spooned kids, believe this crap. PJ quit lying to your children and beating down other's. PJ's ""politics won't allow for the truth."" Hello? Right wing news is getting overheated. Whenever people make accusations of "coddling" terrorists, or statements like "John McCain is a liar. He's a man without honor, without integrity" because they think his current spin hides a deeply different meaning that they can parse, they have moved from rhetorical flourish to the unreasoning of hyperbole. People who can't make the argument without exaggerating their opponent's POV shouldn't be attended to.
AVI,
There are many individuals whose personal philosophies I would dearly love to attend to. Under certain circumstances, war being only one, there is always a rich source of those who qualify for attitude adjustments. One who immediately springs to mind is the Iranian, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He should have been assassinated years ago. I do not understand the delay. Perhaps a clerk lost the paperwork. Ah, attend in that sense - yes, by all means Habu.
Hillary has got a lot of chutzpah. With women making up 54% of the electorate, and between 57% and 61% of the democratic electorate depending on region, nowadays she's bitch, bitch, bitching about sexism.
And they own more property than men, too. The oil companies are getting killed on their "Crack Spread" for Gasoline. Diesel is doing fine - No Competition; but, Gasoline is barely break-even.
Ia State Study found that Ethanol is holding down the price of gasoline by between $0.29/gal to $0.40/gal http://www.card.iastate.edu/publications/DBS/PDFFiles/08wp467.pdf Other, more recent opinions, come up to as much as $1.00/gal. More polluting than Gasoline? Come on; have you ever been South of Houston? Tar Sands: http://www.environmentaldefence.ca/reports/pdf/TarSands_TheReport.pdf Trust me on this; Ethanol is Way Cleaner than Gasoline. If you really want I can chase down some EPA Cycle Tests. From the standpoint of natural history and physical geography, North America and Eurasia, sometimes referred to at the super landmass of Laurentia, have much in common. The land bridge as Beringia is referred to sometimes was over a 1000 miles wide and not buried under ice and above sealevel for most of the last few million years. Succesful animal populations found similar climates and habitats and naturally took hold there over time. Even animals we think of as uniquely African and Asian, such as the cheetah had their origins in North America.
I suspect much of our confusion over the state of the environment, both good and bad, has to do with our myopic view of our place in the natural history, physically and temporally. While I'm glad Scotland is being progressive on the restoration of its natural legacy by reintroducing beavers and moose (elk as they are called there), I wish we'd get on it and reintroduce the big cats (lions, cheetahs, and tigers), pachyderms (elephants, and rhinos) and camelids that our landscape lost and have yet to restore to their natural roles following the Younger Dryas impact event. You can see how well the horse did when given half a chance...why not some zebras too? You'd think paleo conservatives would really know a bit more about the paleo conditions for whihc we owe so much in a natural sense. |
