Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Confessions of a car salesman was spot on. I did a stint of 5 months at a high pressure lot and was struck by how much of the experience he encapsulated. Very good writing.
He did not mention some of the old staples of the trade, such as the silent walk around. Taking the key off the keyring to get the appraisal or the shoe talk. Nailed it on the humiliation and conrol aspects. Come on lonetown. Don't tease please. Expound.
The silent walk around is done when the shopper has a trade in. As part of the preparing to take the car to the appraiser, the salesman walks arond the car and without saying a word slowly touches every defect and ding he sees. this is supposed to devvalue the car in the mind of the person trading it in. Then, in order to drive the car to the appraisoer the salesman insists the key be removed from the key ring. This further separates the car from the owner and helps prepare them for the low ball your going to give them, to beef up your commission on the fornt end of the deal.
The shoe talk is a classic salesman "fire up the troops talk" that was a classic where I worked. Like something out of Glen Garry Glen Ross. Thanks. I can see where the 'silent walk' would be a highly effective technique. One which I will for sure keep in mind.

Safe date for planting is May 15th in central New York. A little latter if your on the hilltops. I was going to take a chance yesterday, but its good that I didn't. Todays weather calls for rain early, then snow mixing in later in the day. Global warming my butt. The public is just about brain dead from the year long plus primary "seasons", however a nice summer and the real campaigning will begin.
Obama's lustre will have tarnished, his policies shown up for their lack of international political savvy, and the races will be more divided than prior to the Civil War. Michelle will have gaffed enough to star in a PSA on hurling in public, Bill Ayers and Che T-shirts will adorn the Obama supporters and he'll become Michael Dukakis, only more glib. McCain will have a chance to show off his credentials during the coming bombing of Iran. Of course we can hope that Obama offers himself as a human shield to stop the bombing...then the problem is solved. McCain can win this contest going away, but it will take Fox News, Rush, and a few other oulets to get out the Mrxists word on BHO. Time saver: If you use a link w/ [url=http://www.domain.com] text [ /url] as shown in the reference guide there's no need to convert the original URL to a tinyURL. Jep,
Thanks man..I wasn't sure if it would blow up the page so I did the tiny, even though men should really stay away from that word. Look folks: It is real simple this year. We have to choose between the Chicago mafia, or the Nevada (read Arizona as a colony of Nevada) mob.
We lost this country when we opened gaming under the pretext of Indian culture. It is interesting to note that Chicago was big enough to steal Boeing from the local gentry. Interesting side note. The guy who made billions in trucking went into development in AZ, just contributed 25 million to support the AZ United Way--health and human services for all --don't you see? Is anyone here old enough to remember that trucking was the first real industry to be taken over by organized crime? Today's auto offering is a 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6 C Dubonnet 'Tulipwood' Torpedo with bodywork made entirely from tulipwood. The picture doesn't do it justice but the fasteners are highly polished brass and the entire car is a real piece of art.
