We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"Have you looked into the eyes of a climate scientist recently? They look really scared. "
ha ha... I thought at first the piece was a sardonic look at Al Gore's virtues. ooops... "Virtue" is out. I think the entire populace of the world should sue Al Gore for making normal morons into blithering idiots.
There is nothing wrong with what Michael Pollan has to say. Only a lazy moron could possibly object to a person making efforts to live more simply, and being honest about their confusion when downshifting gears from the consumer lusts and conveniences of our corrupt society. Last I heard, observing the Sabbath and planting a vegetable garden, use it up, make do or do without, etc. were part of the New England Yankee ethic, not something to mock. Who cares why a person does the right thing, as long as they do it. Al Gore is a hypocritical buffoon, but Pollan is a decent, thoughtful person. Would make a good neighbor.
The power of "spin". It has only taken about 8 years to get every parent AND every techer to abhor the WASL (standardized testing for all students). Yup--by God that was something the Republicans came up with and from the first moment the dems have been spinning the story about this--too much paper work--doesn't judge the child's self esteem . . . . So folks today we had an almost semi retired teacher stand up and refuse to give the test to his class. The whole dang state of WA is cheering!! Read the comments and weep:
It's the reason Pollan is doing it and his confusion about actually doing it that is laughable. His god-like worship of Gore makes him a turnip. He should plant a few in a window box so he'll have company when he refuses to do his daily sun-virtue obeisances.
''And Dohrn, Ayers wife, is no better. Her remark concerning the murders by the Manson "family" showed her true colors:
''Dig It. First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, they even shoved a fork into a victimís stomach! Wild!''
Dohrn was as involved in all the violence the Weather Underground committed as Ayers. And now?
[She's] a lawyer, [and] a member of the American Bar Associationís governing elite, as well as the director of Northwestern Universityís Children and Family Justice Center.
And of course, Ayers personifies arrogance unbound:
I interviewed Ayers ten years ago, in a kindergarten classroom in uptown Manhattan where he was employed to shape the minds of inner city children. Dressed in bib overalls with golden curls rolling below his ears, Ayers reviewed his activities as a terrorist for my tape recorder. When he was done, he broke into a broad, Jack Horner grin and summed up his experience: "Guilty as hell. Free as a bird. America is a great country."
More rotten than you can imagine BL. But, then again we have this charade of a primary, which will lead to a sham of an election. The decay is pervasive, and needs to be confronted in a much bigger way than we have seen since the French Revolution!
