Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

man, i LOVE old Astaire/Rodgers routines -- whatever it is they're doing, it has been shaped and distilled and abstracted and refined to such a degree that you know you're watching a truly unique thing happen in front of your eyes. but i guess that's why they were stars, duh.

That's not Rodgers - that's Powell. Powell much more of the dancer.

oops --danger of commenting before the long slo wifi download --videos, i have to start 'em up (with the sound off natch) and then come back later to view it without the halt-wait-halt-wait routine. a curse of livin' way out in de sticks --

Someone emailed this to me some months ago, noting that this whole routine was done on "one take." What miraculous performers!

Think of the cameramen who had to keep the couple decently within the frame with late 1930's era cameras.

Joseph Ruttenberg & Oliver Marsh (brother of actress Mae Marsh) are listed by IMDb as the cinematographers.
