Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Saturday, March 22. 2008Northern hemisphere warming alarmingly. Must be Spring. The snow and ice are melting fast. Spring must be here! It's the time of year when the rich and famous seek riches from alarmism. My friends and I were starting up a company to sell palm trees to the Eskimos, but unfortunately recent satellite data indicate that warming stopped a decade ago. Dang! Our investment is OK though - we shorted Palm Tree Futures as a hedge, and might get filthy rich with those. Plus the government will pay us handsomely not to grow Palms on our experimental Massachusetts Palm farm. (No problem - all of our seedlings died this winter under three feet of snow.) But even if the earth isn't warming anymore, no warming jokes please - it still isn't funny to those who really care. I am doing my part to save the planet: I will alternate between paper and plastic bags until the experts reach a consensus and the science is settled. Trackbacks

A few questions that are of significance.
Are China and India on board with going full tilt boogie "green" or are they going to continue to compete with the already established industrial world for oil? If the answer is they'll eschew green for the known technology that will produce the fastest growth then Branson et. al. can meet to their hearts content on any island and it won't mean a thing. Second question. Is global warming an absolute scientifically ,unchallenged fact, irrefutable by any other data or is it,as many are saying a natural event in the Earth's history? See the fat lady, see the half man half cow, see the bowling dwarf..10 cents.....to the egress....P.T. Barnum This is an amazing sight because right there in the third paragraph is a reference to an article that answers my second question.
That's way better than Dominos 30 minute pizza delivery. BTW..it looks like a cold spell headed our way, then a meteor, then Yellowstone super volcano eruption, and all before we get a car with 100 mpg on the showroom floor. Darn. One day the Nobel Committee will look back in horror and wish they'd given Al Gore the prize for hair pomade and a good comb over job, and not for global warming.
Doing my bit to prevent global cooling by running my gas trimmer and chain saw all day today. No gas-powered shovel yet, alas.
Surely you jest! They haven't gotten around to apologizing for the Arafat award yet. (Or Carter.)
I agree, no more jokes about Palms. I'm too frond of them to appreciate the humor.
Habu ... here's the hot poop from those who know: global warming is natural phenomenon. It's not manmade, no matter what the Goracle says. It happens every 1500 years or so. So stop worrying about it. We'll survive. Sp will the polar bears, who have been tagged and tracked by polar bear biologists, and can swim 500 miles at a clip without making landfall. They're doing just fine, thankyouverymuch. Al Gore, really did badly in his science courses. Don't listen to him. Just like I don't listen to Jimmy Carter, who was a really bad president.
Marianne Marianne,
Thanks for the 411. I wasn't really worried cause I don't fret over things out of control...and the hype over global warming is definitely out of control.... Anyway one of my favorite Shakespearian quotes from Julius Caesar guides my psychology a good deal. "Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders that I yet have heard, It seems to me most strange that men should fear; Seeing that death, a necessary end, Will come when it will come ." With three former Marines in the family (me included) and a Green Beret nephew there's not much fear around our tribe. Have a reflective Easter and give thanks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HANGnBFRLuc You right-wing trolls are covering up the fact that average temperatures now are higher than at any time since December. And that is an historical FACT.
Please use use some facts. December? Which December?
If you are saying December 2007 and using a particular geography such as the Northeast, I'd say you are right. Funny thing what happens to average temperatures as you move towards spring. No moss on you Mr Snitch. Down here in Florida it was bone chilling in December with several mornings in the mid 40's. Now it's mid 60's in the AM and darn if it don't usually rise up ta around 80..By end of April she'll be 90 and then we wait for hurricane season to begin in June. whew.
Don't talk to me about moss. In these parts (W. Oregon) the moss over runs anything not moving more than 2 mph. My poor cat took a nap and woke up looking like a chia pet.
I've been noticing a horrific rise in temperature between 6AM and Noon.
First daffodils are in full bloom, as are the Hyacinths. Glads and Iris' are up about 5 inches. Roses have leaves, and the lilac's buds are well formed. Twenty miles away one azalea bush has already bloomed as have many Camilias. You could see the impact of warming very clearly this month!
AMERICAN APPLE PIE / ECONOMIC JOB LOSS american jobs are being virtualized by mexican nationals. dont worry. job secirity is there one saving grace. no americans will do the work they do. $7.00 an hour cash with living quarters and federal protection quarantee their survival here and their families at hyome in mexico. while many born americans have little extra cash or even a job today on the bottom of the ladder, its easy to see why big brother ensures foriegn rights before american. after all thats what our constitution quarantees. so cheer up knowing at the very least someone is eating and working.
Hey Mr. Snatch, err, I mean Snitch let's meditate on all the great benefits that warming brings and try not to think about all the horrors that another ice age would bring. Come on, use your imagination.
