We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream -- the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order -- or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. Plutarch warned, 'The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits.' "
All of the aspiring candidates, but Obama and Hillary in particular, are woefully shallow. BHO and HRC are in the simple pursuit of power and believe the people are there to serve them and the government.
The maximum of individual freedom consistent with order was a core value of Regan, but also of the framers of the Constitution.
“It was Governor Ronald Reagan of California who signed the Mulford Act in 1967, ‘prohibiting the carrying of firearms on one's person or in a vehicle, in any public place or on any public street.’ The law was aimed at stopping the Black Panthers, but affected all gun owners.
“Twenty-four years later, Reagan was still pushing gun control. ‘I support the Brady Bill,’ he said in a March 28, 1991 speech, ‘and I urge the Congress to enact it without further delay.’" http://keepandbeararms.com/newsarchives/XcNewsPlus.asp?cmd=view&articleid=2955
Some of us who fought his political regime of stealing our guns in California, remember him as the destroyer of rights to keep and bear arms via the Mulford Act in 1967, ‘prohibiting the carrying of firearms on one's person or in a vehicle, in any public place or on any public street.’
before it was an Act.
Y'all missed that bus, apparently.
So, the soviet Russia is now free to non thinkin' rubes who can't abide the truth which facts support.
Reagan walked oppression which he called order while he talked liberty.
Also, have read several times recently about Pres. Clinton signing NAFTA but, iirc, the FTA was negotiated over a long period of time, mostly between Pres. Reagan and PM Brian Mulroney. Lots of tough talks and negotiating about that treaty and I think it was Pres. Reagan and PM Mulroney who did the work. Think it was Pres. Clinton and PM Chretien who brought Mexico into the agreement, late in the game.
