Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, March 14. 2008Beating a dead horse with a Categorical ImperativeI tend to agree with Roy Innes Jr. (on Sean on the radio today) that the Rev. Wright is a bit of a shock jock. Maybe so, but, if so, not an amusing one. Mr. Obama's team is realizing that the Rev. Wright can sink his ship. I have two comments. 1. Imagine what whould happen if a white guy talked that way about any other skin-colored people. 2. I have only heard and read selected bits, but does that pastor ever talk about God? Today, anybody of any color or background should be thanking their lucky stars if they ended up in the USA - no matter how they arrived here: slavery ship, Mayflower, a leaky schooner from Ireland or a leaky freighter from Sicily or China - or whatever. If you have what it takes to build the life you want, you have a chance to do it here. The categorical imperative is little more than a fancy version of Do unto others, I think. The Rev. Wright needs to rethink his hatred. Trackbacks

I wonder if Obama realizes the possibility, which I believe is the reality, that his pastor does not want him to succeed. If Obama succeeds, people like the "Reverend" "Wright" will have lost one huge rallying cry.
In the last two weeks, Ms Obama said she was ashamed to be an American. Flags of Che were displayed on the wall of an Obama election HQ. Refrences to Obama were found on captured FARC computers. Now we hear how his preacher spews hate against whites, and sells the DVD's. Why hasn't he been called on any of this? This is what happens when different standards are applied to different people.
Ms. Obama has obviously absorbed some of Rev. Wright's vitriolic hate while sitting in the pews for the past 20 years, witness her shame for America. How could it be that her husband would not absorb as well? If not from his pastor, then from his wife? After-all, he sleeps with her!
I would reiterate what was also said: "When does the pastor talk about God?" Now that we're all getting to BO better, is this just the beginning? The tip of the iceberg? Stay tuned. ''Today, anybody of any color or background should be thanking their lucky stars if they ended up in the USA - no matter how they arrived here: slavery ship, Mayflower, a leaky schooner from Ireland or a leaky freighter from Sicily or China - or whatever. If you have what it takes to build the life you want, you have a chance to do it here.''
Amen. And let's not forget that Civil War, which cost the deaths almost 700,000 soldiers in a population one-tenth the size of today's (so, think, 7,000,000 deaths) in order to settle the freedom question in the affirmative--for everybody. Freedom on sharp display, BTW, in the Rev Wright's sermons. That's right Buddy. It's amazing how many miss the irony of preaching hate and rebellion against this country freely, and openly without consequance and consider it couragious. Couragious would be to pubicly and prominently rail against the evil regime of Iran in Terhan.
Courageous if you did it in Iran, maybe. Here you would be just another tree falling in the forest.
Again I say, Obama may as well claim to be a Muslim after all. The only difference between a garden variety radical imam and the "Reverend" Wright is that the latter, to the best of my knowledge, hasn't called for the cutting off of heads - but then I haven't been listening to him for 20 years, so I don't know for sure. Perhaps before he throws the "Reverend" Wright under the Trinity United Church of Christ activity bus, Obama can clarify that point for us.
With regard to the "Reverend" and Obama I'd have to say that so far Obama is doing a great imitation of Baghdad Bob in faking what he knew about what the nigger was preech'n.
This puts Barack in the back of the bus, busted by everyone who isn't brain dead or a mouth breather. First we endure his wife who must have been drinking the same juice the Rev-Nig was. OK now it is full blown racial, Barack exposed for being what he is....slick enough to low profile until he gets the prize...well his prize is now probably an invitation to visit Memphis. The MSM will let this die except for FOX and talk radio AND white word of mouth ... the guy's entirely surrounded himself with American hating racists......not a very good move unless he's really shooting to replace the ailing Farrakhan. Notice how Sharpton, Jackson and now this dude are all men of the clothe ....all they need is the pointy hat. too funny, but educational also
http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/picaninny/homepage.htm don't miss the pics Wow, banjos out in full force, just playing a nastier tune. I don't care for Obama's politics but he has distanced himself from these comments as much as one could reasonably expect from the left and to some extent more so, though it would have been better to state them in a more mainstream forum than the Huffington Post, in my opinion. I do think he is more "indifferent" than "offended" by what the so-called Rev said. That said, the comments here and on another thread seem to relish the opportunity to pull out the "nigger" word. Why, even in this obscure corner of the web, give the libs an opportunity to discredit much of the more rational and intelligent comments (even by those who are using the "nigger" references) on this space? Or is this just something that is just a natural manifestation for the "seed of Albion"? Subtle enough?
He can't just 'distance' himself from these remarks because he's too invested in the good Rev. He's been a financial contributor and member of the Rev.'s church for many years, married by the Rev, kids baptised by the Rev, he's in very deep. Trying to 'distance' himself now just makes him look like the cynical, double talking, too slick politician that he is and many are now finding out about. It won't change the mind of the die hards and black flock, but it will probably eliminate a good chunk of the white and black independant, moderates that will swing towards McCain. There's plenty of time on the clock for this to become very problematic for Obama (said in a chanting rythm with head bobbing and glazed eyes). Me thinks the table is setting up quite nicely for the American war hero.
I agree, it's a nasty word, and using it just strengthens the Rev Wrights of the world, who base entire careers on the word. Using it is just giving the Rev Wright & co exactly what they want -- proof that whitey has it in for a race rather than a behavior. habu is using it to denote a behavior -- but that's a distinction not implicit in the word itself so i fear it is immediately lost, as obviously is has been with KRW.
That's our beloved Habu...shoot to kill and burn down the village...it's the only way he knows how to fight. I'd want him on my side in a fight, but would have to keep him in the basement away from the kids and ladies during peaceful times.
I agree, but this ain't a physical fight it's a political one. Just as in a physical fight I would have no use for Milton Freidman (assuming, of course, we could resurrect him).
As for my buddy "buddy", see above with the additional distinction that your perceived distinctions mean nothing in relation to me. It's not important that I see or not see them, hell I probably appreciate them as much as anybody, it is that they will be lost on those who will not see them even if they could. The vast majority of the outside world has neither the time nor the inclination to "appreciate" this sort of nonsense. Desires to perceive such minor distinctions, when pursued far enough, disintegrate into little more than intellectual masturbation ("oh, God I'm so smart, I'm so smart no one else can see how smart I am so they are not worthy of me and my smartness"). Need I point out a few flippin commies that can make similar distinctions? Phil--LOL--yes, the Vikings loved their Berserkers in a fight but had to house them out on the edge of the village during peacetime.
KRW, no need to tell me you're not interested in distinctions--it's clear enough by your use of 'banjo' trivializations to deplore 'n'-word trivializations. Fun i'm sure, but a little thin on "principle". OK, buddy, as you insist on splitting hairs, please take the time to read my post. I tried to be concise and to the point, but apparently it was too much for you to digest. Please read the following excerpt repeatedly until you can settle yourself down enough to understand its meaning:
"It's not important that I see or not see them (read "distinctions"), *hell I probably appreciate them as much as anybody*, it is that they will be lost on those who will not see them even if they could" Or are you incapable of discerning distinctions, yourself? Let's try to remember that we're on the same f'n team here, for Allah's sake. de-de de-de, de-de, de-de, dee do-dah-do-dah, do-dah, do-dah-dumb ... BTW, full disclosure I do own a Flatt/Scruggs album myself...get a sense of humor, you'll live longer. Just notice (or re-noticed) the front half of the title of this thread. Redundant? Ironic? What, pray-tell, might be the distinction?
