We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Spare us the learned, sociology-drenched justifications.
Spare us the reasons why you "get" Palestinians when they gun Jews down in cold blood.
Spare us the chapter and verse on how the plight of the Palestinians is at the root of Islamic terrorism the world over, and if the Palestinians were to receive full justice, Islamic terrorism would pass from the world.
This is an amazing stance for Haaretz which tends to contort itself to understand terrorist murderers. Amazing that they published this. But on the same editorial page, another piece "explaining" the murder of these eight Torah students from a Palestinian perspective (written by a Jewish journalist).
Would someone please explain to me what constructive, inventive, creative things the Palestinians have done since Yasser Arafat threw his first bomb back when I was young? When I was in my early twenties, working at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, I would sometimes give lifts to young Jews who were heading out for Israel to work on the kibbutzim. They were making last visits to their parents, many of whom lived in Roosevelt, N.J where I lived. What those young idealists have done in the ensuing years, to make a technological Paradise out of a flat ugly spot in the desert is amazing to behold. What the Palestinians have achieved, as far as I can see, is to try and blow it up. Period. Toxic envy is an ugly thing.
I agree with leag. In fact, they should have been wearing suits of 2"-thick steel armor plate, and clanking around inside an impenetrable castle fortress. So stupid of them to venture out into the street and try to live like plain old ordinary human beings.
as in, say some murder cult started murdering people because they were named "leag" -- and then one day they cornered you and shot you to pieces. and then somebody wrote in and said, "look, all he had to do was change his name". I would've fussed at that person too. But yes, thorazine -- must remember to take.
