We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The covered hammer is probably a good idea, but those light Airweights have quite a kick with .357 loads. If you are set on a wheelgun, you might check out an all-steel J frame model instead, like the Model 640 or 649.
My little Smith has what we always called the "lady's handle" (*blush*) --it IS small but all the better for a Levi's-back-pocket no-muss-no-fuss carry. I can't even find my model # -- all it says (along the 2" barrel) is 38S.&W.SPL. -- with an ssn bottom of the frame: 658210
P.S.
I'm looking for the same S&W .22 revolvers myself. I have several .22 autoloaders but would benefit from a sweet shooting .22 revolver that's similar in fit & feel to my centerfires. Practice @ $.06 per round rather than $.48 per.
sho nuff -- there it was, on the frame, behind the swing-out. there's also another SN of some sort, 5 digits, on the swing-out itself -- all hidden when in 'ready' position.
Great guns, I have 2, both 38's one blued and one airlite T in titanium, 38 p+ !! Only downside, 5 shots. If you can't kill 'em quick, get a 15 shot Glock 27, 40 cal.
right -- 5 shots and a 2" barrel make a great carry gun, but the advantage is only that -- easy to carry and thus more likely to be at hand if needed. That and the revolver reliability factor could mean everything. But 15 rounds is for sure three times better than 5!
I have a model 638. It is virtually similar except the hammer is accessible in a slot on the rear of the frame rather than completely shrouded as on the 642. I highly recommend it, as it is comfortable and convenient. I carry it in an inexpensive Uncle Mikes pocket holster in my front pants pocket. No one, not even my wife has detected it there without being told. I figure that if 5 shots are not enough, you're pretty much screwed anyway. I have a mid sized auto in .40, but it is uncomfortable and difficult to conceal.
Do you know if I would be able to find this gun in an online gun auction? I really like this little guy, but I don't want to pay the retail price. Does anybody have any suggestions (other than the original site) on where I could find this gun?
