We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Read it after I saw the movie. The movie was pretty close to the novel (shortened novel?), but the end was changed. I like apocalyptic genre, so I enjoyed it. It was a good and quick read. The movie was worth checking out as well.
I read Blood Meridian and Pretty Horses -- but then segued off into the Jack Aubrey-Stephen Maturin sagas. Still, i remember watching early Coen Bros films (thinking Blood Simple) and thinking how fine a match the sensibility would be with McCarthy. Maybe y'all should should send me $5 for being so prescient. oh, okay, i can't prove i had that thought so just make it $2.50
that's okay -- son is on his way over bringing Sonic Drive In double meat cheese bacon burgers, onion rings, and chocolate malts. at least that's the plan --if he don't make it here before i get dizzy i always have the peanut butter & saltines -- yum!
I have O'Brian's last book signed. I can't read it. It would mean the end of the greatest series of characters, events and history and brilliant writing I've ever had the pleasure to read twice. They're better the second time around! I think the first time, I did them in seven months. I'd go to sea every night and time be damned! :)
