We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The New Yorker piece linked this morning, "What Was I Thinking?", about behavioral economics is well worth reading. It's a fascinating field of study.

Milbots. Is there an ethical question? I do not see one.
A comment on the Sam Zell piece linked earlier: He is at least right about one thing - the Dems' needing to talk down the economy as much as they can. Doom and gloom.

From the article referenced:
the feminized Obama challenges the historic, masculinized American dream of looking out for oneself. Obama seeks to move American from narrow "self interest" (the masculinized narrative of Alone I Will) to a concept of shared interest with others (the feminized narrative of Together We Can, which Obama often cites as "Yes, We Can")...
As I said yeterday. Can you imagine Obama doing anything traditionally masculine? No way.
Playing jacks and hop scotch ..yes.
I'm going to scratch your eyes out you Habu bad man. Then I'm going to pull your hair and kick and scream at you. You are a big bully because you think I am a sissy. Well I am not a sissy, I just swish a bit when I walk and I use pee-nee pads to keep the "drip" from showing on the legs of my light tan suits.
You're just a big bugger head. Pardon my language but you make me so angry I could just storm right out of this house right now and go shopping, or even eat some tofu.
ha ha ha. Methinks someone just accessed his feminine side.
Oh, dear...almost forgot. Can you pick me up a tube of that fabulous Purple Rain lipstick you wear?

It sounds like fun.
Do you really read all this stuff, BD?
John and Ken (KFI) cover the snake story
I'm feelin' more secure knowing Stossel doesn't know what being armed to the teeth means.
Reminds of the folks yesterday who couldn't figger Hussein observation of woman having more teeth.
I 'd prefer everyone armed to the teeth 24/7 even the girls.
Don't insult women by calling everyone you dislike "feminized". He is a male airhead, the tool of more sinister forces who are using him for their own purposes. But I am sick of people using feminine as code for weak, passive, irrational, wimpy, unable to fight, etc. The only places to celebrate vive la difference are in the bedroom, and in the care and tending of infants and the young. Two places where biology is destiny. You hurt conservativism by sneering at the feminine. Reminds me of the guys at work sneering at a whip smart male colleague as being "whipped" because he actually knows when his kids' school vacation is, and plans to take time off to be w beloved kid! He's no androgynous wimp, just a loving daddy.
Barack is a lightweight and dangerous because of that, but please don't use him to help neantherdals' mindless sexism..
Wrong, wrong ,wrong...you have issues..Obama is as feminine a man as a man can get.
I find the most stable, happy women are those who can take a joke. Nothing, nothing more boring on this planet than a woman who needs to get a life .... one that allows for her femininity to laugh at it all. Feminists are monsters.

That was an interesting article on behavioral economics, though slightly depressing. Depressing when the author spoke of how the irrational choices we make in economic decisions extrapolates perfectly right over to how folks vote.
What's more depressing is Madison Avenue knows all this and uses it.
Good point. And not just Madison Avenue... but political advisor's as well.
Meta, I was responding to Habu's #5.1 comments. It was only attached to your comment because I clicked on the wrong reply link in a hurry to get back to my job.
I definitely agree with you and Luther about Madison Avenue and political strategists' unscrupulous use of what we are learning about people's irrational decision making processes. That was such a good article, and sobering to recognize oneself in many of the descriptions.
Matthew 7:3 is a Bible verse that seemed an appropriate response to Habu.
Was reflecting later on the favorite taunts of the middle school boy : "You have issues!" "That's so gay!" or "You are such a pussy!" Such remarks reflect the sexual anxieties and preoccupations of young boys, and it saddens and annoys me when grown men persist in them. My kids have learned to ignore them. I just get mad at them. Payback time for the kids came when they were able to pulverize the louts in fencing and in self-defence class.
The other cowardly middle school tactic is to say something aggressive or insulting then whine "Jeez, can't you take a joke!"
I'm old enough and have been admired and loved enough to know that a woman does not need to be entertaining or please men to be worth something. I'm stably married, I adore my kids, and believe that I have a life (however boring some may find it) and don’t need to go get one, despite chronic illness in the family, tragedy and difficulty. Kind friends redeem the latter inevitable human troubles.
I have plenty of "issues" but I don't think they are a factor in my gut distrust and suspicion of Barack Obama. But it isn't because he is somebody's idea of 'Feminine" (he does seem to be lacking in that he-man appeal I would have looked for when I was in the market for a mate, but it's his PC stuff, his being a lightweight without experience that make me reject him as a Presidential candidate, not his lacking enough testosterone). We need a strong President to lead our country in a dangerous world, not a Manly Man (I keep snickering and thinking of Men in Tights when people get too macho about all this political garbage)
In any case, it is certainly more fun to write nonsense in the blog than to go clear out the freezer or nag a kid to do a research paper whilst resisting their wheedling to do their work for them… I am sociable and garrulous (you think!?!?) and enjoy virtual debate and discussion when the external circumstances of my present life keep my nose to the grindstone and frivolous amusements something to be anticipated Post Kids’ College… But now off in my SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED incarnation….kids tremble and hastily reduce the video game window so as to seem to be earnestly studying physics problems at her approach….
There has been some who say that Muhammad was feminized by his domineering first wife who taught him how to make money and then girlified by his eight year old bethrothed who taught him how to dress dollies.
Nevertheless, BHusseinO is definitely Muhammadan in birth and in loyalty.
From 'The Audacity Of Hope, "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."
On this (Febuary 27th) day in 2007, Barack Hussein Obama said the Muslim call to prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth." In an interview with The New York Times, Obama recited, "with a first-class [Arabic] accent," the opening lines of this prayer:
"Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that Muhammad is his prophet... "
The po, lil, black boy is a Muslim and suggesting any equality with faire white women is a slur on their faire kind.
Idiom Shortage Leaves Nation All Sewed Up In Horse Pies
February 29, 2008 | Issue 44•09
WASHINGTON—A crippling idiom shortage that has left millions of Americans struggling to express themselves spread like tugboat hens throughout the U.S. mainland Tuesday in an unparalleled lingual crisis that now has the entire country six winks short of an icicle.
Since beginning two weeks ago, the deficit in these vernacular phrases has affected nearly every English speaker on the continent, making it virtually impossible to communicate symbolic ideas through a series of words that do not individually share the same meaning as the group of words as a whole. In what many are calling a cast-iron piano tune unlike any on record, idiomatic expression has been devastated nationwide.
"This is an absolute oyster carnival," said Harvard University linguistics professor Dr. Howard Albright, who noted that the 2008 idiom shortage has been the country's worst. "I don't know any other way to describe it."
