Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Tuesday, February 26. 2008What is Mrs. Clinton's record in politics? We hate to kick a man when he's down, but this summary of Hillary Clinton's record came in over the transom today. We suspect this has something to do with why she is not finding the support she desires: Hillary Clinton has been telling America that she is the most qualified candidate for president based on her 'record,' which she says includes her eight years in the White House as First Lady - or 'co-president' - and her seven years in the Senate. Here is a little reminder of what that record includes: As First Lady, Hillary assumed authority over Health Care Reform, a process that cost the taxpayers over $13 million. She told both Bill Bradley and Patrick Moynihan, key votes needed to pass her legislation, that she would 'demonize' anyone who opposed it. But it was opposed; she couldn't even get it to a vote in a Congress controlled by her own party. (And in the next election, her party lost control of both the House and Senate.) - Hillary assumed authority over selecting a female Attorney General. Her first two recommendations, Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood, were forced to withdraw their names from consideration. She then chose Janet Reno. Janet Reno has since been described by Bill himself as 'my worst mistake.' Hillary recommended Lani Guanier for head of the Civil Rights Commission. When Guanier's radical views became known, her name had to be withdrawn. Hillary recommended her former law partners, Web Hubbell, Vince Foster, and William Kennedy for positions in the Justice Department, White House staff, and the Treasury, respectively. Hubbell was later imprisoned, Foster committed suicide, and Kennedy was forced to resign. Hillary also recommended a close friend of the Clintons, Craig Livingstone, for the position of director of White House Security. When Livingstone was investigated for the improper access of up to 900 FBI files of In order to open “slots” in the White House for her friends the Thomasons (to whom millions of dollars in travel contracts could be awarded), Hillary had the entire staff of the White House Travel Office fired; they were reported to the FBI for 'gross mismanagement' and their reputations ruined. After a thirty-month investigation, only one, Billy Dale, was charged with a crime - mixing personal money with White House funds when he cashed checks. The jury acquitted him in less than two hours. Another of Hillary's assumed duties was directing the 'bimbo eruption squad' and scandal defense: ---- She urged her husband not to settle the Paula Jones lawsuit. ---- She refused to release the Whitewater documents, which led to the appointment of Ken Starr as Special Prosecutor. After $80 million dollars of taxpayer money was spent, Starr's investigation led to Monica Lewinsky, which led to Bill lying about and later admitting his affairs. ---- Then they had to settle with Paula Jones after all.---- And Bill lost his law license for lying to the grand jury ---- And Bill was impeached by the House. ---- And Hillary almost got herself indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice (she avoided it mostly because she repeated, 'I do not recall,' 'I have no recollection,' and 'I don't know' 56 times under oath). Hillary wrote 'It Takes a Village,' demonstrating her Socialist viewpoint. Hillary decided to seek election to the Senate in a state she had never lived in. Her husband pardoned FALN terrorists in order to get Latino support and the New Square Hassidim to get Jewish support. Hillary also had Bill pardon her brother's clients, for a small fee, to get financial support. Then Hillary left the White House, but later had to return $200,000 in White House furniture, china, and artwork she had stolen. In the campaign for the Senate, Hillary played the 'woman card' by portraying her opponent (Lazio) as a bully picking on her. Hillary's husband further protected her by asking the National Archives to withhold from the public until 2012 many records of their time in the White House, including much of Hillary's correspondence and her calendars. (There are ongoing lawsuits to force the release of those records.) As the junior Senator from Hillary's one notable vote; supporting the plan to invade

Did the transom-thrower include citations? I'm familiar with most of these, and would like to use the consolidated version w/ a friend of mine, but the friend's going to rightfully call me on lack of cites if I try it....
When we label something as a transom item, it means we lack proper provenance.
Ah, check. Do y'all mind if I borrow this (w/ attrib of course)?
Jim, it's all good info -- check it out on google.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. It goes all the way back to when Hillary did all she could to deny Nixon his right to due process during the impeachment process.
The incident with citations is in the archives at Classical Values. In Hillary's case anyway, some people just don't change. While Hillary is ruthless, at least she has a guiding principle - the ruthless pursuit of power. Obama, on the other hand, is shockingly devoid of substance, consistency and principle. He is running the Dr. Feelgood campaign and everyone dislikes Hillary so much that he is getting away with it.

Well that ruined my lunch! Mercifully, I had forgotten some of that stuff, but if we have to have one or the other I'd take Hillary, the known quantity, over Obama of the personality cult.
Ugh. What a choice. Please leave poor Hillary alone. She has to win Texas and Ohio so she can make it to the convention. Then hopefully we will have a repeat of the '68 Dem convention. Let Obama and Hillary beat the crap out of each other, because the Republicans are too nice to criticize them. Notice, that schmo McCain apologizing for the unforgivable offence of saying Obama's full name. If McCain wins were in for four more years of being nice to the Dems while they sh-t all over us. I shouldn't follow politics, its too frustrating.

By HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON; HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON IS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE CHILDREN'S DEFENSE FUND IN WASHINGTON. Published: April 7, 1990 http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0CE4DB1631F934A35757C0A966958260 Also, just as an aside on the cleanup at Ground Zero...
Don't think I ever met a fireman or construction worker who did not know about using face masks and respirators, at least not in recent years. Their health can depend on it. Was shocked to see so many workers at Ground Zero choose not to use these simple (but mildly uncomfortable) tools. They knew better, imho. Must have. It is basic training today. Fact is: 89 cent masks fog up saftey glasses.
Choosing effective glasses over masks is an easy call for anyone who actually works strenuously in hazardous environments. But MF crowd, for most part, can only comment from the sidelines. Safety masks here. Fogged up safety glasses are not a problem with the right mask and the right fit.
http://www.uline.com/Group_230.asp?pricode=WO624 Just a commenter on the sidelines but think cleanup workers at Ground Zero would want protection from particulates and hydrocarbons. I would have worn the respirator not a mask. And yes, I think respirators are uncomfortable. Also, with some of masks, men must be clean shaved for a proper fit. Saw a man turned off of a job where a respirator was required because he refused to shave.
maybe it was a case of, when all hell is breaking loose, who sweats the small stuff --?
Not talking about the collapse. Talking about the cleanup.
Whether you are being harsh or sarcastic, Meta, it's a bit unfair - as is Patina. Public safety employees have dozens of requirements, many of them cumbersome and ridiculous. I work in a hospital and about half of the things we were taught 20 years ago that were 100%-essential-don't-you-dare-question just sort of faded away, while the other half became standard. In a crisis, people cut corners because they know the people making up these rules have only half the data, but sometimes the workers guess wrong.
I was being sarcastic. I didn't trust myself to say more because I don't handle blasphemy well.
" The worst effects, though, were found in emergency workers who were at the site when the towers collapsed. "It was terrible. The debris, we were choking on it. I had my mask with me but it wasn't on when the tower fell," says Dunn. "The face-piece itself was filled with debris, so when I put it on and took a breath I got all dust and almost threw up. I tried to clear out the mask, put it back on and started breathing OK, but no one else had masks, so I shared it with cops and EMS." For the first few days only surgical masks were available to workers at the WTC site, and even when enough respirators arrived, many workers did not wear them all the time. "If 25 percent of people were wearing them at one time, that was a lot," says Jonathan Bennett, public affairs director of the non-profit New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health. "I've worn respirators and it is hard work. Communication is impossible with them. People who normally wear them have hand signals that they've developed on the job. Wearing them eight hours is a real challenge, and wearing them for those 12-hour shifts they worked… I'm not going to say it's impossible, but it's a lot to ask." "Looking back, it was a mixed bag," says Von Essen. "Some people didn't wear the masks all of the time, some people didn't wear them at all. It was very warm, and hard to communicate. I'm not sure how we could have prevented it. " The Shadow: 9-11’s Hidden Victims , Joe Flood Not just talking off the top of my head. I buy masks by the case and provide employees with respirators too. I have worn them many times and know many workers who wear them all the time. Drywallers, insulators, painters, etc. Think WCB suspended the rules at Ground Zero, which was necessary because of the conditions there. Still say not wearing an 89 cent mask during the cleanup was a choice.
When thinking about the things that our firemen have been forced to do, I can't help but remember this one:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292491,00.html Gwynnie inadvertantly asks a good question at the beginning of the article, so allow me to rephrase it in the classical sense:
What kind of man kicks a dog when it's down? Apparently someone like you, Gwynnie. A more cherry-picked, disingenuous list than the above would be hard to find. A few examples: "Hillary assumed authority over Health Care Reform, a process that cost the taxpayers over $13 million." Yes? AND? The government is constantly spending zillions of dollars on studies. It has to. 13 million sounds like we got off cheap. The government spent 23 million dollars on a 10-year study of marijuana and came to the conclusion that it makes people "philosophical and lazy." That's what your 23 million bought. Where's the outrage? "She then chose Janet Reno. Janet Reno has since been described by Bill himself as 'my worst mistake.'" And President Bush will later be claiming Alberto Gonzales was a "great choice"? "When Guanier's radical views became known, her name had to be withdrawn." Do you know what her "radical" views were? She believed black people deserved a bit of special consideration because of what they'd been through over the past 200 years. Stop the presses! "Hubbell was later imprisoned, Foster committed suicide, and Kennedy was forced to resign." A good example of both cherry-picking and disingenuousness. First, what if she had recommended 100 people? Her 3% "record of failure" would be looking pretty good! And I love the implication that the type of people Hillary recommends are suicidal losers. Nothing disingenuous about that! "Hillary wrote 'It Takes a Village,' demonstrating her Socialist viewpoint." Oh, well, why didn't you just SAY so? Jeez, I had no idea. That's just what an article like this does -- open one's eyes to the ugly truth! A Google search for "When Guanier's radical views became known, her name" yields 438 hits. That is, this same text was sent "over the transom" to 438 sites who obligingly posted it. So it appears you're in good company. Assuming that's the kind of company you wish to keep. "We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist..." Just a reminder. The piece is a letter, so clearly an opinion, and so obviously a short-form collection of characterizations, that there is no need to state it as such. It never pretends to be a Brittanica entry.
It's odd that you treat it as though it has been offered as history, given that you challenge nothing in it but the opinions. Exactly, This is how the Republicans Brain Wash Folks with the Mainstream Media !!!!
See my post on sr 71 Black Bird. So Called Pilot Says Made a Model of the Plane in 1951 if you can do the Math, you will see it is false. If Plane Existed in the 50's I doubt he would have a Model of it in 1951. Remember this was super secrete project. Also Lockhead Martin site helps confirm this. |
