Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Related: The Wikipedia Jihad The brightest people tend to be heaviest drinkers. Does that mean I should up my consumption? Mayor Bloomberg: We're all going to die from global warming! I'm afraid he might actually believe it. Pelosi "leaning towards Obama." I'd bet that hurts, over at Hillary HQ. Also, do you care? Inside the Clinton staff shake-up. Hillary still refuses to release her tax returns. (Can't find the link.) What news story does she wish to prevent? Classical Values takes Bill Clinton seriously when he raises this idiotic issue, but I don't think Clinton means it. I think he is being cutely manipulative and dishonest. One reason Obama should not be elected Pres: A Sunday School view of international affairs. Our adversaries and enemies did not attend Sunday School, Barry. Yesterday's primaries: Isn't it clear yet that people neither like nor trust Hillary? It doesn't matter what she says. They just don't like the cut of her jib, as we say. Dems seem relieved to have an alternative. When Clinton supporters like Rendell spout stuff like this, they are making a mistake with this race-baiting: it's clearly their wishful thinking that people would vote against a black guy. Pollsters care a lot about gender, race, etc etc, but voters don't seem to care: Obama wins the white male Dem votes, proving to me that nobody cares about race anymore - except the race pimps, and the pollsters who keep sticking it in our faces. Hillary and her tax release is rapidly becoming a moot point.
At this point it's going to take an Obama "suiicide" in Ft Marcy Park for him to fail garnering the nomination. Hillary is no longer a threat. Obama is drawing crowds in the tens of thousands, Hillary in the hundreds. She's toast. Even her core constituencies are abandoning her. I can't say I'll feel badly watching her ego getting crushed. No doubt she'll need therapy. NO ONE saw this coming. Ain't politics a hoot! I haven't felt so warm toward Democrats since '76. Nineteen, not seventeen.
Last two paras in the WSJ piece on USA migration are just devastating to statists -- or should be, that is.
Moving , for a moment , away from my main theme of the horror that could become SCOTUS under an all Socialist Democratic regime to other aspects of Obama's current shortcomings qualifying him as President is of course foreign affairs.
So far his platform is straight from Alice in Wonderland, best descibed thusly: The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down what seemed to be a very deep well Either the well was very deep, or she fell very slowly, for she had plenty of time as she went down to look about her, and to wonder what was going to happen next. First, she tried to look down and make out what she was coming to, but it was too dark to see anything . In our current world with a renascent Russian returning to the Soviet Cold War Days and China attempting to lead poison it's way into world leadership Obama simply lacks the foreign policy experience necessary to negotiate the complexities of these situations. If he relies on the Kissingers of the world then there goes his "Change " mantra out the window. Although could his Change theme simply mean voluntarily weakening the US so that we no longer are a superpower and thus not perceived as a threat? Who knows, he won't say. But a junior Senator with three years experience in national government isn't the best choice to be making the very tough decisions that often need making. So far our electorate has lost it's mind in Obama-in-Wonderland. We made a BIG mistake in not raising holy hell over the Gazprom affair. Now it's katy bar the door; Europe doesn't want to freeze.
Hussein's foreign policy is no mystery and his mentor maybe, Senator Lugar not Kissinger.
He's a bill called the “Global Poverty Act" is up to vote for Valentine's Day. Ain't he all heart. He proposes subjecting US to global taxation and supports aid to Russia which relieves pressure on Russian military spending which in turn allows them to advance new weapons systems for Iran and themselves. http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/challenges.php?id=1386596 Leag,
Thanks for the heads up and cleaning up the record on Hussein's foreign policy. I'll take a look at the bill if I get time. Best Habu Aid to Russia ....wow. This is worse than I imagined. The poverty bill leaves no doubt as to Husseins desire to subject US to a tax administered by UN.
His support for the Russian "bailout", already existed; "The Soviet Nuclear Threat Reduction Act of 1991" (Public Law 102-228, 12/12/91, Title II Soviet Weapons Destruction), co-sponsored by his mentor, Senator Lugar, and signed by Bush 1. "Lugar-Obama Nonproliferation Legislation" signed into law by President Bush a year ago, expands U.S. cooperation (read, bailout). Result is: Russians have assets free to do their thing. http://www.cato.org/pubs/fpbriefs/fpb-039.html "Fear of Islam" is governing Holland reads the headlines.
One could see this coming as far back as one of Winston Churchill's wartime speeches, this one given on July 14, 1940 on the BBC. Known as the "War of the Unknown Warriors" speech, it's length is typically Churchillian, but about the Dutch this is his description: " War of the Unknown Warriors" July 14, 1940 BBC Broadcast, London "But here, in our Island, we are in good health and in good heart. We have seen how Hitler prepared in scientific detail the plans for destroying the neighbor countries of Germany. He had his plans for Poland and his plans for Norway. He had his plans for Denmark. He had his plans all worked out for the doom of the peaceful, trustful Dutch ; and, of course, for the Belgians." (remainder of speech http://tinyurl.com/3cej47) I suppose if you want a country that is known for it's pothead coffeehouses and window waving hookers then Holland is the place. Those attributes do not develop world leadership and in fact breed cowardice. They deserve to be dhimmis if they don't quickly beg for help from the outside world or from some magic juju grow some stones to get then out of their current situation. But they won't. And of course they have no RIGHTS to private ownership of firearms. The Bloomberg article reads like satire. If it were 1973 it could be in the National Lampoon. Darryl Hannah in the war room? hahaha. Also if they want to replace the tropical hardwoods NYC uses now, they do not need a design study. They could just call Sippican. I bet he knows what their options are. But nooooo. Must spend lots of tax money on a 'design team'. Is the team subject to NY affirmative action law? If so, Sip might not be eligible anyhoo.
Also, very interesting info from the moving companys. Just FYI..company I worked for saved a lot of money using what we called 'backhauls', shipments of heavy steel roofing delivered for a few hundred dollars because the truckers were picking up full loads of lumber. With no backhaul the trucks drive up empty, so the truckers were usually quite happy to be offered one. Did not realize that the moving van companies rates offer 'backhauls' too. I'm continually surprised that you link to someone who has zero respect for bloggers, and usually puts the word in quotes when he uses it. That is, you guys aren't bloggers, you're "bloggers." With 2,000 web sites out there quoting election stats, why pick this asshole? In related news, check out this interesting Penn Jillette clip on Michelle's: http://michellemalkin.com/2008/02/12/potomac-primary-weather-report-and-potpourri If y'all haven't seen the terrific Penn & Teller 'Bullshit' series on DVD, put 'em at the top of your Netflix queue. Also NJ, was reading a blog the other day (cannot recall how I stumbled onto it) about Obama being huge news in Indonesia and that part of the world. Seems no one is interested about that except the Aussies and they are up to their necks right now with what looks like very big trouble in East Timor, again.
Biofuels Meltdown
By William Tucker Published 2/13/2008 American Spectator Last week two studies published in Science announced what anyone might have suspected all along. "Biofuels," rather than reducing carbon emissions, are adding to them -- possibly by a factor of nearly 100 ! The two studies may finally puncture the myth that anything is to be gained from burning crops for fuel. From the very beginning, there was never any indication that turning corn into ethanol was improving our energy independence. As that effort faltered, the myth arose that at least it was reducing carbon emissions. Now it has been shown to do neither. the article in full http://tinyurl.com/2zcawh Dr. Merc:
