We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Good stuff. Lots to think about. Almost too much. Makes my head hurt some.) Tough to sort it all out but strategic interests of the nation do need to be addressed in the debate. There are probably no companies that can build a space shuttle or a nuclear power plant or an aluminium plant without government as a partner.
I don't know,BD. Progressivism, Fascism,Leninism,Stalinism are all statist ideologies in practice regardless of theory. All that's needed is a premise for top/down control. Regardless of the justification they all lead to the same place eventually. Social 'democracy' and progressivism are the happy face justifications for statism but the result is anything but happy for those who resist. Marxists and National Socialists were at least forthright in describing their goals while social democrats and progressives hide behind Goldberg's 'happy face'. The Ribbentrop Pact should have forever put to rest the fake left/right divide regarding types of totalitarianism. It is and always was chracteristic of leftish thinking which seeks to destroy both the political and cultural legacies of classical liberalism and limited government wherever they exist.
