Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, January 27. 2008Oh, no - not those "caring" Clintons againI don't know the Clintons. Never met them, and would not presume to speculate about their personal issues - other than the patterns of behavior which have been made public over the years, and now the repeat of their familiar patterns in the primaries. (Who is really running?, I wonder. It's kind of strange, isn't it?) So I cannot glibly claim that they are sociopaths, or narcissists, or anything. They might just be old-fashioned, take-no-prisoners, slippery money- and ego- and power-hungry pols with typical politician holes in their superegos (assuming they have functioning superegos). If I were a left-wing Dem, that's probably what I would say in their defence: "National politics is hardball. Everybody does it." Everything I read in the news illustrates their ruthless and "uncaring" approach to political warfare, but even I would never have expected them to play the race card against a fellow Dem. They have now branded Obama as the "black candidate," and now clearly want him to return, repentantly, to the plantation with Jesse and Al...or they will let the hounds loose to chase him down in the swamp. Mr. Charlie, the boss-man, has warned him. Their protestations of virtue and "caring" are, and always have been, cloying to me, and so obviously manipulative. They give every impression of having replaced personal conscience with a political pseudo-caring for others - as if the latter could redeem the weakness of the former. (As readers know, I do not want a "caring" politician. I am an American, and can take care of the caring myself, thank you, without a sovereign or a nanny.) What I do notice, now that Obama has a tiny bit of traction, is how quickly those who do know them and have worked with them are leaving the ship. Already Kerry has, and Gore would if he had the nerve. This tells me that their past loyalty was based on fear and/or convenience - nothing more. These people know what the Clintons are really like. I suspect that Obama's success has offered a chance for many to come out of the closet and make public the fact that few in politics really care for, trust, or wish to work with these people very much. That says more than any opinion of mine can say. Watch for a flood of Obama endorsements, and watch Sidney Blumenthal taking down their names in his little black book. Is the MSM-manufactured and -supported Clinton veneer finally cracking? Maybe, but the MSM will plaster it over when the time comes, followed by a fresh coat of pinko paint. (I think it would be a kick to run against the Clintons, but not to run against Obama: he seems likeable and approachable and decent, despite being just another socialist Dem who would like to run my life for me.)

Dr. Bliss,
Your professional decorum is to be applauded in not resorting to a glib assessment of the Clinton as sociopaths, since they. I assume, have not been under your care or personal observation. Happily I'm under no such constraint so I can enjoy a glib festival at the Clintons expense. Using the cypher method of determining such things, a quick rundown of the following list places them at the precipice, if not over the cliff on being sociopaths. Classic Traits: Sociopathic Traits 1. GLIB and SUPERFICIAL CHARM 2. GRANDIOSE SELF-WORTH -- 3. NEED FOR STIMULATION or PRONENESS TO BOREDOM -- 4. PATHOLOGICAL LYING -- . 5. CONNING AND MANIPULATIVENESS- 6. LACK OF REMORSE OR GUILT -- 7. SHALLOW AFFECT -- . 8. CALLOUSNESS and LACK OF EMPATHY -- 9. PARASITIC LIFESTYLE -- 10. POOR BEHAVIORAL CONTROLS -- 11. PROMISCUOUS SEXUAL BEHAVIOR --. 12. EARLY BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS -- 13. LACK OF REALISTIC, LONG-TERM GOALS -- 14. IMPULSIVITY -- . 15. IRRESPONSIBILITY -- 16. FAILURE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR OWN ACTIONS 17. MANY SHORT-TERM MARITAL RELATIONSHIPS -- 18. JUVENILE DELINQUENCY -- 19. REVOCATION OF CONDITION RELEASE -- 20. CRIMINAL VERSATILITY -- Elaboration on each of these traits can be found at the referenced site. http://www.sociopathicstyle.com/traits/classic.htm With Clintonism, ya get the above behavior model as "the American ideal" --on both the domestic and the international stages.
It's not even the left-wing agenda that's the heart of it--it's the corruption of the political (and otherwise) culture. The language itself is the start point. I'll defer to ya'lls greater expertise, but isn't it more likely that the Repubs have a better shot in the general against Billary? I get the impression that the electorate will simply swoon for Obama's soaring, empty rhetoric. That picture of Obama refusing to put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem was really disturbing.
Paul, getting shed of Billary in the general is an imperative, but if they can be got shed of in the Dem primary, that's a victory right there, whither goest the general.
As far as rooting for Billary as the less-electabile, that's too blue sky for yours truly to not root for Obama agin 'em. The sooner off the stage with those two, the better for the country, imho. Fair enough. I hope you're right, and you certainly know more about it than I do. I despise the Clintons as much as anyone but I have a real bad feeling about the future of the nation under President Obama.
Great job, Dr. Bliss! Succinct with all anyone needs to know in it.
Well........okay, Habu's breakdown was good, but I'm glad you didn't feel the need to go there. I love a good essay. Paul, Obama will be easy to beat because of his lack of experience in the geopolitical swamp. That's why he needs to win the primary. Meta, Thank you.
I felt the good Dr. was under certain ethical considerations not to get specific about something as touchy as labeling a former President and his wife sociopaths. She did indeed do a great job both in her essay and in her ethical responsibilities. Bravo Dr. ''Paul, ***** will be easy to beat because of h** lack of experience in the geopolitical swamp''
(Shhhhhhhhh!!!) From your lips to God's ear Meta. You have more faith in the electorate than I do. From where I'm sitting he looks like a Tsunami on the horizon.
Paul,
You're right. So's Buddy. ugh.... If she gets it, everyone will figure she'll get her geopolitical how-to between the sheets. As you say with creepy imagery, 'tsunami' is right for him. Do you know what makes tragedy (in the literary sense) a tragedy? The hero has a fatal flaw that brings him down: The flaw cannot undo whatever damage the hero has created. I have a fatal flaw: I so naively trust that people will be reasonable. Good damn thing I'm not in a position of power, however insignificant that position might be. Manager of a hot jalapeno tart shoppe.... dang. Caroline Kennedy's NTY endorsement of Obama, "A President Like MY Father" is enough to make a person with a memory of JFK want to puke.
That Caroline has no doubt been surrounded her entire life by JFK sycophants it is not unreasonable for her to project what she has constantly heard about her fathers inspirational greatness to BHO. (Too bad he's not HBO). But those of us old enough to have seen JFK in deed and action aren't impressed with him. He was more divisive to the country than he was inspiring. He allowed the Bay of Pigs to flounder for lack of guts and experience. Allowed the Civil Rights movement to remain moribund and was a drug addict and adulterer. I remember a columnist writing after his assassination that he was the only President to leave Washington in the morning a son of a bitch and return that night a saint...it was too true. Historians now know that Mayor Daley's machine in Cooke County had every ghost in the metero area voting Kennedy. The margin of victory came from that area but Richard NIxon, against the advice of counsel refuse a recount in the closest election in history, saying that it would be too divisive to an already bitter nation. Jack Kennedy was a stain on the Presidency followed by an even more odious bastard LBJ. Caroline should know her history better, but blood is thicker than truth. She is entitled to be wrong. Unless the Repubs nominate Huckabee... this election will be a nail biter to the end. We have a near 50/50 split in this country... and no one presently in the running will appreciably effect that split, as I see it.
And if we are performing professional and/or amateur psychoanalysis on the candidates... could we please do all the candidants. I would find that most useful. Well, right off the bat, do ya have to be crazy to want to be president?
I know i know -- too cynical -- public service drives many pols. But still. Not crazy exactly... but certainly not 'normal'.
After all, General Washington initially refused the position. Perhaps a harbringer... his hesitation. some wanted to make him 'king' after he won the war. he wouldn't hear of it.
If we only had a few of his kind today...

How right you are. I have spent the past nine months or so studying the RevWar and Washington. He was an extraordinary man the likes of which we have not seen again. When King George found out Washington had retired he was amazed that he had not announced himself King.

Yes, and not for nothing is he the 'Father' of our country. Militarily, politically, he was the cornerstone for building our future. An 'ideal' man.

Nobody branded the boy.
He tryed to run as a white man but he ain't. Him is a negro. Too bad, so sad. I propose some folks market a BO doll for the girls who thinks he's cudlley cute. Leag,
What a scalawagish rascal you are. Obama didn't 'try' to run as anything but as a man. The Tag Team would have none of that as you know. Those two sure know how to catch a fish AND flay him. What is a BO doll? One with stinky armpits? yuk I disagree he watched the governor from Michigan and figured he was as good as any white man.
So, despite his pledge not to run he ran but his blackness cannot be erased with the best of lies. Hussein's mama, said his girls don't like his smell, too, no matter what Caroline says. My continuing condolence concerning your fishing deficiency. No matter the outcome of the primaries, unless something extraordinary happens we're going to wind up with either Romney, McCain, Hillary or Obama as president. Not a comforting thought.
Like Ed Norton use to say on Jackie Gleason..."What a revolt'n development this is"
Jackie Gleason --wasn't he the guy that got so mad at Harry Badurchy?
