We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
NJ...I don't have the words to express my thanks for your reposting of this. I missed it the first go around.
It is so overwhelming, so stunning, so irrefutable that it is stupefying our "leaders" continue to allow or even to debate the immigration policies now in place.
Of course if we reach the proportions shown in the charting there will almost assuredly be a Malthusian event to impact the numbers. That of course is not exactly what you'd characterize as good planning.
You may want to consider the insight of Ken Gronbach who is a marketing demographer and has both a book and a blog on the impacts of population shifts on business and society. I sent him the link of the YouTube clip you've posted above and his reply follows:
"As for Mr. Marbles on youtube, he is a quack. Listen carefully to his statement about two or three minutes in regarding reducing our Nation's fertility so we can eventually stabilize our population like the other advanced nations of the world. Would someone please tell me what advanced
nations he is referring to? France? France has no French children. Why do you think Disneyland failed there? France stabilized their population and lost their country. The same is true across The European Union. You can include Russia, China and Japan for good measure. If you want to know what the world will be like in fifty years take a look at the cultures that are having lots of children."
Mr. Gronbach also believes the illegal immigration problem will solve itself: "However I do not believe that the
border issues are as big as everyone including presidential candidates is making it out to be. This influx of illegals will stop of its own accord as the entry level jobs dry up and dry up they will because of our own huge homegrown English speaking entry level labor force- Generation Y. Generation Y is currently overwhelming the entry level labor market and displacing the immigrants and sadly minorities."
What convinces me about Mr. Gronbach's positions is that he uses verifiable numbers and cites his sources. While his focus is predominantly on the effects of demographics on business and generational marketing, his conclusions apply equally to social conditions and many of the problems we currently face.
But Joachim, the marble dude had charts and people applauded ... this Ken Gronbach chap, does he have charts? Where is his book on the Amazon list? Goes he have a youtube spot?
(a) The charts are grossly misleading. Go read Tufte. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Tufte. The two big problems are (a) distortion due to discontinuity of y axis and (b) showing a exponentional function on a linear scale. A 2% annual growth rate is an exponential curve. Show it on a linear scale, it gets steeper and steep until it explodes! Start off with 250M as "zero" and a growth to 300M looks scary.
(b) Pay attention to countries with upside down demographics. Italy. Japan. This is killing them. That will be us without lots of immigration.
(c) Immigration is not a policy to help people of the 3rd world. Immigration is a policy to help people of the USA. If you can't see that free trade includes free movement of labor, go back and re-read your Econ 101 textbook.
(d) You can move the factories to Mexico, or you can move the Mexicans to the factories. Yeah, that's a slogan, but there's a lot of truth to it.
I can go on forever. This guy is a charlatan and is appealing to base emotions. Sad and sick.
