Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Dr. Sanity, welcome to the world as it is. The old KGB, Soviets never just disappeared and now Boris has them in line and gearing up.
Patton was right, Curtis LeMay was right...we should have stopped them in 1946 before they got the bomb. But HST wouldn't do it. We're playing the same game in Iran right now. The latest NIE was a purely political assessment manufactured to hamstring W. I don't think it will , and it sure won't stop the Israelis...it'll just make their job tougher. The American Thinker is a great resource. It's interesting to watch the MSM trying to position itself to eventually gain maximum access to the Democratic primary winner. Obama is good, if not great. Hillary has the machine.
The MSM has the problem of access. You back the wrong one and you lose access. You lose access you lose viewers and readers which means you ain't gonna get any mo love. A beautiful conundrum to watch the MSM grapple with. Rorke's Drift ..gallantry displayed on both sides of the fight, but spear chuckers rarely defeat entrenched rifle armed infantry, and that day was no different. I was sorry to see the little calf die in the movie, and Michael Caine had on way too much mascara. Stanley Baker was solid. The Color Sarge was great too.
"Button your tunic, where do you think you are man" ``MSNBC is simply not allowed to criticize Democrats and especially not Hillary.''
Imus's Nappy Wednesday happened one day after Hillary mutual friend Donald Trump called producer Bernard McGuirk to try to get Hillary on the show ; the answer was no way, which Trump relayed back to Team Hillary. The next day Media Matters took an unexceptional Imus remark and ran with it. If Hillary can't get on Imus, nobody else can either, in particular Obama, who had been on once already. Trump recounts this on post-Nappy Friday, when the stirrings still hadn't exploded, here http://rhhardin.home.mindspring.com/imuscut.hmmm.ram and MSNBC fired Imus. Saudi Arabia finally gets around to letting them drive....look what our women can do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqnKPkE69m0
I posted this over at the synthstuff blog:
It's estimated by many experts that the 7.7 Billion Gallons of Ethanol that we're presently using are dampening the price of gasoline by approx. $0.45/gal. It's, also, figured that a one dollar increase in the cost of gasoline has between 2 to 3 times the effect on food prices that a one dollar increase in the cost of a bushel of corn. So, we can figure that without ethanol we would be paying, maybe, a "little" less for food, but, probably, not a lot less. BTW, the cost of the "corn" in your 14 oz box of corn flakes is about a $0.05, and the high fructose corn syrup in that can of coke is a couple of pennies. Oh, and at these "record" prices, corn is still about $0.09/lb. Have you ever tried to eat a pound of corn? Canned corn is hard to find at fifty cents unless, one can find a forty-three cent bent can at the bent can store.
If you can buy it for nine cents I'll take a case. Re: MorMitt MA medical insurance mess
Just a taste of what the rake would foist upon USA. "No more free rides" is an understatement. Actually, sweet corn is about four, or five cents more.
But, anyway, Leag, That's the point. Fourteen Cents for the corn, and $0.35 + for processing, packaging, advertising, shipping, store profit, processor profit, wholesaler profit, etc. Oops, forgot to allow for the half pound (?) of water. Whatever; you get the picture.
I checked the # price of frozen kernal corn this a.m.
Name brand $3.39, store brand reduced this week to $2.50! Your price went from 9 to 14 cents pretty quick but I'm going to the bent can store later, rufus. Yes BD, bent can store is a blast and convinient to the aluminum can recycling spot. At 62 cents a pound, 9 lb sack of aluminum gets almost a dime. Girls at both spots are kinda cute, too. Sounds like the French students are preparing themselves for a life of public service and close attention to the needs of others.
