We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Glad you are enjoying this. I will try to find another picture. There is a moment on the front--only a moment. It is that very short moment during which the entire "Front" lights up in bright (medium) blue wildflowers. I promise it will make even Habu and Buddy cry!
NJ Soldier: we need folks such as yourself to get out there and just walk across "The Front". There are folks here in MT now that would fill that valley with cheap housing developments in a nano-second. After we tell them "NO" then they come back and say, "ok, ok--just a small development right in the middle: only about 160 houses". Then the next fast money, wheeler dealer comes in and demands the same right. My point being that protecting these untarnished vistas is very difficult for a handful of farmers, and such.
I am gonna see if I can find a picture of the wildflowers. Enjoy the day!
Bud Guthrie is my hero (so is Dick Summers). Has been ever since I read 'The Big Sky' somewhere around 1969. Read his others, all worth the effort required to find them. The Way West, These Thousand Hills, Fair Land Fair Land & Arfive are among the best. Tragedy, treachery, friendship, violence, generosity, living free.
I think he referred to the peak as "Elephant Ear Butte".
