Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

High schools and competitive colleges

We do not believe that the best liberal arts educations are necessarily at the most competitive colleges, but we do tend to believe that the smartest kids will be your competitors and colleagues at the most competitive colleges.

WSJ ranks high schools by college admissions.

Having been the president of the Prometheus Society and a member of other Hi-Q societies 20 years ago, let me assure you that "smartest" is not usually the group of peers who will inspire you to greater heights. You would think that the brightest would be the group to whet yourself against, but it is not so. The tallest basketball players are not always the best, though height is an advantage. Thus it is with intelligence.
