We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

PC Week: Meat is back in fashion.

The New Yorker wonders, in a book review, whether it's cool to be a carnivore now.

Who cares whether it's cool? Only The New Yorker, and they should be above such superficial nonsense.

But, I agree with one thing - who can remember all of the cuts of a cow, and where they come from? I can remember the cuts of a White-Tailed Deer, however, having butchered my share.

I was told it's cool to eat vegetarian but I did't like the taste.

I subscribed to the New Yorker for almost thirty years. I let the subscription lapse a little over a year ago. I love the cartoons, and some of the articles are quite good, but the overwhelming Bush-hatred got to be too much. It's a poisonous rag. The last straw was a cover showing a soldier next to a Christmas tree. The tree was decorated with body-count ornaments. Disgusting.

but the thread points out

how can new yorkers sneer at "flyover people"?

Notwithstanding the amount of meat that I put into the freezer, I consider myself to be a vegetarian, abet a post modernist one - I will eat meat, but do so ironically

Yes. I weep when I slice into a nice filet. But that's okay. Ironically enough, it adds just the right amount of salt.

Uh oh. There is that phrase again....'committed to the greater good'. The price of, the amount of and the choice of good food available at the supermarket is a pleasure. I like a good supermarket and do not have many complaints or problems with the way we eat but there is sure a lot of people who do. I figure if you did not like the meal you just had, wait a few hours. There will be another one along.

What does His Greater Goodness recommend? That we engage in cow-tipping and snitching, bucket-stealth in the night at the nearby dairy barn, raiding farmer's markets, and stealing the very just-picked lettuce out of a Mexican's hand?
