Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Doesn't matter. This country, heck, the world, is so divided as to what the meaning of "is" is that it won't make any difference to those who feel one way or another.
In other words: Politics has become a pseudo religion with believers on both sides. The satanic side believes that screwing your young interns in the oval office is not only okay but probably didn't even happen. The satanic side thinks that polar bears are dying, the ice is thinning, and mankind is to blame- as they drive around in their subarus sipping starbucks. Decievers and the decieved. The satanic side thinks it's a woman's most important duty to kill the baby inside herself, for the choice of it all. "Take that Patriarchy!!" The good side thinks other things about borders, language, culture, rule of law, self reliance, decorum, science, life, and responsibility. You know, the Bush Chimpler Darth HaliburCheney way of destroying the planet with standards developed over the last couple thousand years of progress. Maybe Bill can get his wife’s foreign policy advisor Sandy Berger to dispose of that annoying historical record for him.
If he gets caught doing it, Bill can laugh, “Oh, that Sandy, what a mess with the paperwork, what a scamp!” (that seems to always work) Has it occurred to anyone besides me that Hillary's campaign is a sneaky plan to get Bill into the White House for a Third term? How many of you seriously believe that if Hillary is elected, Bill will meekly step aside and let her run things? I don't think so. With all his much vaunted presidential "experience," he'll just take over, pull our troops out of Iraq and leave the Iraqis to the tender mercies of Al Qaeda, pass universal healthcare legislation, open our borders to anyone who wants to walk in, raise taxes again, and then, with the economy in the toilet, blame it all on Hillary.
Betcha I'm right. Marianne Matthews i agree--if America puts those two back in command--after all they've put us through already--then something is really gone rotten in the state of the state.
Those who agree with me...hey great points !!!! Those who don't .. go to a really ,really bad place.
Marianne, Bill will be in heaven. I mean Hillary will be busy ,busy, busy finishing off the USA and Bill will be partying every night in the WH with starlets, non-inhalers, and the gliteratti of Hollywood. He might give he some advice sure but he's a guy far more interested in leg of lady than the land of plenty...unless it's a land 'o plenty leg.....hell, he'll have an entire designer collection of "stained "blue dresses to sell on eBay..DNA tested. Of course all the smart Republicans with time in grade are quiting or not running ..we're in for some real shit......but I don't think she'll get elected..the House and Senate may be Dems but she won't make it into the WH. He negatives are holding steady in record territory. All well put... but I wish there was some room for those of us who have a little gray in our lives... not so starkly black and white. Or, have we really reached that point... where compromise is posion... yes, I know, compromise has for the most part landed us where we are over the last fifty years. But it was also what allowed this country to be born. The contentious debates of our founding brought to a middle ground, where all could put quill to parchment. I'm really done with radicalism, or total allegiance to any particular 'world' view. I guess I'm a visionary ass... I look for what will best ensure that this country is here in a thousand years... though I know I must concentrate on the present moment.
A conundrum I guess you could call it. Billy Jeff cain't lie.
He just ain't good at it. Now, a really good liar skins a bear without any blood sweat nor tears. black and white:
you either believe in reality or you believe in something else. When Bill was schtupping young things and the feminists turned away, well, what did they believe? As the throat cutters are today turning our own freedoms against us, those who are the first in line for beheading or clitorectomies, such as gays and feminists, at least those with microphones (Rosie for one) will tell you the real enemy is the white male and all we have created. The time is now, black and white, no grey. The stakes are too high to soften our blows on those who would destroy us. the right compromise with sin is to hate the sin but not the sinner.
exposing my ignerance, i dunno who said that--but it is a mouthful. I understand Phil... really I do. But you talk 'civil war'. Fine, I'll choose sides at that time. But be careful with what you wish for... do you really want a country where everyone thinks exactly like you?
We do have enemies, within and without. I'm just saying that those broad brushes are dangerous. Harmful to our country, in the end, really. Complicated times... stretching all of us. the problem:
http://instapundit.com/archives2/012284.php True enough, however, the sting of the broad brush is fresh on my back. I can expect no quarter from those who weild it, and therefore give none. You have no duty to respect those who swear against all you are.
The left's automatic and general imputation to the right of the crassest, most selfish motives does sting. Do we do that to them? yes, to a far lesser degree, and against only the cynical marxist brain trust. BUT, toward their legions, we generally simply lament the misguided and uninformed idealistic utopianism.
yes. Absolutely. Portlanders are far too polite and wimpy to call you out to your face, save perhaps the anarcho-bicyclists, and their harsh opinions are usually only a middle finger as they blast thru the 4 way stop. I don't read too much into that finger.
