We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

See the field of economics called "Public Choice Theory" (wikipedia) for a more detailed explanation.

Cargo cult--religious group--and this can be a secular religious group!-- that manifests politically as a movement to vote in a government that they think will deliver the most cargo--goods and services-- to themselves paid for by others outside the group.

A 'cargo cult's' members worship the deliverer of goods without regard to the process of producing the goods. The goods themselves are thought to appear miraculously as a sign from the gods. The economic processes needed to actually produce are too complicated for the cultists to imagine since they have little experience in innovation or competitive markets. Today, a cargo cultist would probably have a zero sum view of economics. Like say, a Hillary Clinton or most ivory tower types, modern cargo cultists have never met a payroll and continue to be mystified by basic economics.
