The big contribution from T&T is to have had the only Islamic coup in the Western Hemisphere! Amazing that no one remembers that short-lived affair and the connections to the US... right after the JFK terror plot was exposed I did a bit of digging on Trinidad and the Caribbean and came up with three articles to finally give some scope to what is going on there.

It is not the traditional radicalism as seen in, say, Egypt, because, lets face it, this is the Caribbean, after all, and anything done goes through that societal haze. That said folks do wind up dead, hitmen do wander around, terrorists do get set free, and al Qaeda and Hezbollah have made in-roads there almost completely supplanting the Islam that came via Africa in the 16th-18th centuries, with the new and modern type that gets an AK-47 attached to it.

There is one greenhouse gas that is highly abundant in T&T: methane. It is one of the main suppliers of LNG for the eastern seaboard of the US. Now, imagine an LNG tanker pulling into a major harbor along the east coast.... and exploding. As it releases pressure explosively it turns from liquid to gaseous form with the gas heading out at a fair clip mixing with the surrounding atmosphere. That shockwave would be on fire followed by the less well mixed gas until that gas then had a good mixture with the atmosphere and it then detonates. That is something on the order of a Hiroshima or Nagasaki sized bomb, save that it would be a FAE bomb sucking out the air under the gas cloud as it went up. Most of the defense shelters were made to keep the blast wave out... not worrying about the air trying to escape in an extremely fast fashion in the other direction.

Luckily the British found out that plot based in Trinidad by a splinter group in contact with al Qaeda. Of course the head of the organization went free....
