Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Rudy on Hillary:

"Honestly, I don't know Hillary's experience. She's never run a city. She's never run a state. She's never run a business. She's never met a payroll. She's never been responsible for the safety and security of millions of people... So I'm trying to figure out where the experience is."

Rudy is telling us - showing us - that he has what it takes to take on the Dems. That is more important to me than whether I agree with everything he has ever said. After all, the only person who is always perfectly right about everything, and with whom I always agree, is me - and I do not want a political job.

Good show Rudy! Thanks for pointing out that Hillary effectively called Gen Petraeus a liar. This is the new democrat. Send our military to war, then try everything you can to make them fail even to the point of questioning their integrity. Great Commander in Chief material here. This woman will break the best military in the world if she gets the chance...

George W. Bush just warned about World War III breaking out if Tehran gets the Bomb. Norman Podhoretz calls it World War IV. But who's counting? They are both trying desperately to break through the invisible wall of denial -- that nuke proliferation has now reached a danger point in the hands of Mahmoud and his farcical mullahs.


If Democrats decide that they don't want to face reality until Hillary gets elected, the American people will come to their own conclusions about the irresponsible Dems.


Nicolas Sarkozy sees it. So do Angela Merkel, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. The Israelis have been warning about it for years. The Saudis are scared, along with the whole Arab world. Vladimir Putin is currently making nice with Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad, but he can't really want nuke-happy zealots on his southern border. They have no love for Russian infidels.


It only matters that we face facts. Then it matters what we do. A unified world can defeat this danger before it gets out of control. But first we must wake up.

Thanks for the piece on curing ham, I find these articles a nice break from the terror I live within.

However, I would ask you and your readers for a little more insight into the subject of curing hams. It says in the article that the oldtimers insisted that a ham be placed to cure in a locale that would guarantee it would receive the smoke coming from a west, north, or northwest direction. The old timers new something about the wind coming from the east, sout, and southeast. They did not want that wind blowing their smoke onto their curing hams. Does anyone here have any idea as to why the old timers made that distinction?

Maybe the moisture, ap--probably wanted less (or more?). Old superstitions--setting fenceposts by lunar cycle--figure THAT one out--
