We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"What has Al Gore done for Whirled Peas?"

This is rough, from an editorial piece in The Telegraph:

The former US Vice-President has already taken over from Michael Moore as the most sanctimonious lardbutt Yank on the planet. Can you imagine what he'll be like now that the Norwegian Nobel committee has given him the prize?

I don't know what bothers me about him most - his condescension or his lying and hypocrisy. But I could care less about his weight: I'd bet that the Gores have a very good chef. All of this will seem very silly, though, when we hit the next crisis of global cooling, in which case Al will be well-insulated.

The presidency would be a step down for Al. He's already up there on the level of eminence where Jimmy Carter dwells.

I normally pretty much agree with you but I this one we differ – Gore’s weight is a matter for public concern! Given that we spends his life flying around the world bleating about CO2 emissions & global warming, surely if he went on a diet, the aircraft that he spends so much time in would burn less fuel i.e. less emissions. See – really he just doesn’t care.

When global cooling starts, Gore will take credit for saving us from global warming. BTW, don't we get local cooling everywhere Gore goes?

to add to Mr. Free Market's concerns...all that food/calories he consumes is emitted as methane gas which is a greenhouse gas don't ya know. Al is personally contributiing to the increasing levels of greeanhouse gasses...oh the horror!!!

Ummm, so you would choose the ever-honest George Bush over Al Gore? That certainly shows excellent judgment. Because of your guy, who has lied, dissembled, misrepresented, avoided, denied, and generally been irresponsible with facts to the cost of 3500 American lives, a wrecked New Orleans, and even worse conditions for peace than any time in years.

Really, excellent choice.

If not, nicely done, you've managed to condense the whole nutroots screech points done to a single sentence...impressive. Well except you left out 'global climate change' and 'Halliburton'. But you did manage to complete the sentence without using the 'fascist' label.

Now, back to the real world.

bboot, you forgot, Bush has ruined the economy and destroyed our foreign relations, too. And got Dan Rather fired--and set up the WTC attack. All sorts o sh*t --you should be more comprehensive--if you list only some of the horrors, you're letting him off all the others, see?
