Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

QQQ: The Welfare State Vicious Cycle

The more you tax people, the less money they have to take care of themselves and their families, so the more they are inclined to turn to the government (ie their neighbors' money) for help, so politicians raise taxes to buy their votes, rendering them that much less able to care for themselves and their families.

Similarly, the more one declares that it is the government's responsibility to provide for the people, the more the citizenry will relinquish the job.

isn't this also the result of smaller families and more mobility. The only one left to "care" is the government. Until they decide they don't need you anymore.
