Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The CIA and Hyde Park

The good reason to visit Hyde Park, NY, in the lovely Hudson Valley, is not to visit the home of the worst President of the US, but to visit the CIA.  Paul Bocuse says it is "the best culinary school in the world." The other CIA - The Culinary Institute of America.

They have a choice of restaurants, relatively inexpensive and run by the students, and they aim to please.

The CIA restaurants are, indeed, excellent. A word of advice, however, is appropriate. Your dining pleasure will be enhanced by visiting the restaurants of your choice toward the end of their "semesters". Go while they're having their final exams and you'll likely get a meal you won't soon forget.

You'll likely need to make reservations WELL in advance. Should you find yourself in that neck of the woods looking for an excellent meal but unable to secure reservations at the CIA, don't hesitate to scoot on up to Rhinebeck and dine at the Terrapin. I can't imagine you'll be disappointed.

have to quibble with your cavalier dismissal of FDR, who was without doubt the best president of the 20th century. It is fine to be quirky and cranky but pointless to be just rude. Those battles are fought and over. Pretending that history can be remade by is just silly. If you wish to bring the issues back again, do so, but not in this insulting way.

You would, of course, have to make some interesting choices about the support of Europe and defeat of Nazism.
