Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Heather on Jena

Thanks, reader, for pointing us to Heather MacDonald's The Jena Dodge at City Journal.

As we have noted here many times, the post-war�downhill slide�of American blacks is due to the breakdown of the black family. Blame whomever or whatever�you will for that. Moynihan preached about this years ago. As white folks imitate the single-parent life, they will eventually�reap the same whirlwind. It's called social breakdown.

No one in the Jena stampede dares whisper a word about black crime, because it undercuts the portrait of a victimized race. You can listen to every protest across the country glorifying the �Jena Six� and you will never hear an acknowledgement of the massive social breakdown that is the black crime rate: no mention of the violence in inner-city schools that black students commit overwhelmingly; no mention of the rising homicides in midsize cities that young black males commit when they feel �disrespected.� It is not racism that is putting black men in jail; it�s their own behavior

And what can be done? This protesting is a sick joke to the legacy of civil rights.

All the nooses popping up places now should be looked at closely for agent provocateur fingerprints as well.

It's very easy to yell fire in a theater it seems, and Jesse Jackson is the fire marshal doing it! Give that man a medal for safety, or in this case, a medal of peace for being such a staunch supporter of justice for those who hurt their knuckles on a white kid's head.

Rush Limbaugh predicted this a year or two ago when the news broke about Hispanics being the (numerically) largest minority, overtaking blacks. "Just watch them get more and more hysterical". Well, o great one, this equality-to-beat-down-with-impunity-right is a lot of things, hysteria included.

Call it what you want . Welfare,Govt. security, drugs affirmative action, race pandering, all of it has destroyed the black family. Ten times worst than slavery ever could have accomplished. The saddest part of all is that blacks as a voting block continue to vote for people that enslave them. Its called the Democratic Party.

Double standards wreck systems. Period. The "soft bigotry of low expectations" is a phrase we need to all contemplate seriously.

I am afraid I would be accused of the hard bigotry of high expectations. People don't like being told they are crap and for whites to tell blacks to get it together is unacceptable in my view.

I expect all people to attempt to live up to their potential. Can you imagine a politician or artist doing the same? What happened to Bill Cosby? "Oh no he di'nt!" (finger snaps)
