Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Our government school bureaucrats at work. A city superintendent in Massachusetts put dozens of teachers on unpaid leave for failing basic English proficiency tests. Meanwhile, he failed the test too ... but he got a raise! (He also says it's not his fault because his first language is Spanish.)

That's baloney about failing the English test b/c it's not his first language. I would probably do better on a Spanish test than an English test precisely because I have studied Spanish as a second language. I didn't really get predicate and imperative (and certainly not the subjunctive) until I learned Spanish.
