We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
On a more serious note... It won't end until I, a tail-ender baby boomer, am dead. A slight majority of those my age, still alive, who lived the 60', 70's cannot be reached. Only a larger hit of 'something' might shake them from their stupor. Unfortunately, 9/11 did not do that for them.
I think only cold steel on their neck might do the trick now, and of course it will be too late then. So, we have to hang on for another 15-20 years. Only time and Mr. Death will end the scourge.
RE: the Seventies…
Reports today that Camillus Cutlery (a well known knife factory in upstate NY that once employed several hundred people) is closed and they are auctioning everything. Hang on to those Camillus knives. Once had a really nice one but was tear-gassed while sleeping, very early one morning, at the 1971 (?) Newport Jazz Festival. Then a National Guardsman in a gas mask rousted us, saw the knife and took it. Woodstock was over but we were still young and dumb.
