We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Re illegal immigration: Somebody must think I am an idiot if they think I would fall for this manipulative horse poop. Using kids to achieve one's political goals is close to child abuse. And why isn't the kid with his mom, anyway?
Won't anyone think of the poor kids who are suffering because their parents are in jail? It's not Johnny's fault his dad raped and murdered someone -- why should he be denied his dad's presence in his life?
When, oh when, will America stop its cruel domestic war against criminals?
are you kidding? This situation is so absurd it should not be addressed. The kid should be with his mom in Mexico and this government better get its act together or everybody is going to be flying, running, walking and swimming here in their ninth month of pregnancy. I guess I should have had my kids in Italy. Oh wait , that's right ,they would not have been granted citizenship just for being born there. There should be an amendment because it isn't 1776 anymore Pepe!
They already do that. My sister is a neonatal NP in Wash, DC. She sees a lot of babies with mothers from other countries who have come here specifically to bear their children on US soil. She says there is a whole network of people who get the social security/disability paperwork going for these babies.
There are plenty of women who cross the Texas border just to have their babies, as well.
The solution is to stop birthright citizenship for children born to illegals or visitors.

And of course they think you're stupid. That goes hand-in-glove with the modern illiberal view of humanity.
You're too stupid to be trusted to think, make decisions, or run your own life. And you're a sad, pitiful creature who shouldn't have to accept the consequences of your actions. That's why they appeal only to the emotions (not reason) and why the state has to solve every problem.
By accident of birth (just like me), this child is a US citizen. The government does not exile citizens. His mother could have stayed if she was willing to follow the law but choose poorly. The child is living with relatives who are legal residents if not citizens.
When he reaches age of majority he can reaffirm, as I did, his citizenship (or not) by registering to vote, selective service registration and other steps that say "I am an adult citizen of the USA".
That he is being exploited is bad. However, do we really want to be a nation that decides a minor's residence based on the political beliefs of his family? Do we want the government to have the ability to exile its citizens? Razor sharp slippery slopes abound.
The strength of the US has been its ability to absorb and tolerate harmless foreign influences and folkways. That strength is under attack from both sides and troubling. It only makes the sound of Caesar's approach to the river faster.
as long as the kids grows up in mexico i have no problem with a birth here but if the [parents are illegal then on a plane or bus they go. My parents were legal residents when I was born here and you know I am pretty darn tired of this immigration arguement. Either you get a visa or papers or you don't cross the line.
