We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Armed Ideology

As quoted from Daniel Pipes in Democracy Project's Long Wars and Revisionism:

The outcome of the "war on terror," I submit, will have less to do with breakthroughs in avionics or intelligence coups than with the degree to which civilized people understand the nature of their enemy and join together to fight it. That means liberals remembering, as Canada's Salim Mansur put it, that "Liberal democracy is no less an armed ideology than [is] Islamist ideology." What does the future hold: 2001's slogan of "United We Stand" or more of today's deep fracturing?

The answer may well be decisive. The historical record gives me some reason for optimism, as until now the Western democracies have prevailed. For that to happen again, learning about Islam and Muslims will be part of the requisite preparation.

In the thread featured article for me the crux of the entire "Long Wars and Revisionism" is this one simple and profound sentence.

That doesn’t take nor require fanatic or hateful attitudes or responses by ourselves, but does require the steady resolution to persevere

One thing this country honed to an art form in the last sixty years is lack of perseverance. It's been built into our psyche's by our wealth of choices and the speed with which we can change almost anything. Do you sit on the sofa mindlessly hitting the channel changing button? Skip that song on the CD? Fast forward the DVD? Yep.

When was the last time you took a none work related project of any size to fruition? Or for that matter even undertook a project? Her on MF I'm betting the percentage is pretty high but in society in general were back to the 90-100 point IQ dude who just wants a ESPN season pass to football nirvanna.

And forget history. It wasn't five years ago the saying was ,"what have you done for me today"..now it down to the last hour. No reflection, "Going forward" is the mantra in every boardroom and training session.

So it's no wonder we will, to queer up Churchill a bit, "never persevere to cease against them", cause hell ,we never really get started. Long before the car antenna flag is a faded rag flopping in the breeze, the cause for it being there has become our now normative state of ennui.

Until we get back to a mindset or more realistically a huge behavioral change we will not beat the radical Left, or the poor and wretched with AK-47's. They want what we have and they're coming to get it or wreck it for us.

Calvin Coolidge said it best.

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race
