We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I could not resist taking a couple of photos. The 16 year-old pup baked some cakes and stuff last night, and threw a Victorian tea party for her pals for after church. Croquet to follow. It's proof to me that there is hope for the American youth. And hats are fine things on ladies, are they not?
This little scene was much more common, a century ago. Look how far we have culturally fallen. This once would not have been noticed. Now it seems fresh and new. Girls, elegantly dressed, no tattoos, or strange hair, with lovely hats, having a good time with each other. It looks like a Norman Rockwell painting.
Points taken gentlemen. But I still hold that 'tea' socials are not an American institution, or if so, practiced by a few only. Yes, there are entrepreneurs who start business's offering such, but I think that just points out how unusual the custom is in America. As I said, all well and good for the girl's, a nice thing they did, but a little perspective, please.
