We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I was living in California, a second or third grader when "All Shook Up" hit the charts. I begged my mother for a magazine with the words in it and went to work on the voice inflection ,quivvering lip, and the lyrics..by sundown I was "The King"
His early music was fantastic. Hollywood ruined his soul with"Do the Clam" but I still loved the guy.
Later in life when my father had command of the NROTC Unit at Penn State University an Army major moved in two doors down. Fresh from Germany he had been Elvis's CO and said a nicer guy you'd never meet. Elvis was in tanks.
Jacksonville ,Florida near one of my homes has the distinction of having arrested Elvis for moving his pelvis on stage at a concert ..man the Baptists have this town locked up to this day.
My Grandfather faced Babe Ruth in the 1932 World Series and later played with him when he was traded to the lowly Boston Braves.
Good bye fellas..thanks for the memories.
Amen --what would the world have been without rounders like the Babe and Elvis. We make fun of--well actually we lacerate and despise--our "celebrity culture", but ya gotta admit, it does add zest to many lives.
