We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Thanks to all who cared about the condition of my cracked olecranon (aka elbow). It's less sore today, and I have had a bandage on it - mainly so I remember not to bump it into anything. I've survived worse!
For tax revenue, no capital gains tax might raise the most taxes. Conspiracy explains. But who wants to raise more tax revenue? What for?
The NYT's garbled view of Iraq. Crittenden. What do they want, and why? Rush thinks the MSM is trying to provide cover for a confusing Dem Iraq message. As Captain Ed says, "Congress will find it very difficult to retreat from Iraq while we're succeeding."
How difficult is it to enforce our current immigration laws? Easy. And is immigration really an American ideal? Not according to the founding fathers.
Thank God Stanislav Schmulvitch is in jail. America is surely safer because of that.
Even our friend at The Moderate Voice gets irrational when it comes to the Dark Lord Rove:
From the sliming of John McCain in the 2000 primaries to the outing of Valerie Plame and the firing of the U.S. Attorneys for not being political enough, Rove’s fingerprints have been all over every unethical, immoral and illegal move of the Bush Administration.
What did Rove have to do with outing Valerie Plame? Nothing. Rove was nothing more than Bush's Paul Begala. And if Rove were really an evil genius, he would have done a better job.
Interesting post which shows the weight of certain issues are often measured on the Periodic Table of the Elements where atomic weights and their relative life is often measured in millineum years.
Immigration now of Muslims into the USA is a bad idea.
The ideology and historical culture they bring is immiscible to what our laws and historical culture have been. The Founding Fathers were correct in recognising that the wrong immigrants could easily form factions inimical to the nations interests and thus create an atmosphere that would become irreconsilible and lead to conflict.
Islam and Chritianity are not compatable, never have been and never will be. One calls for tolerance, the other for dominance, by force if necessary. Not good.
So what then does a country do with an implacable foe who is capable of discharging great harm upon it's citizenry and economy? You kill them, and in great numbers.
Who 'outed' Valerie Plame is one of the most idiotic things I have heard from the Left and MSM for years. While working in the covert area you do nothing to give any sort of a profile to yourself... ever. Valerie Plame married Amb. Wilson, who is well known in international circles and a regular on the 'brie and champagne' circuit. Putting yourself before the cameras of socialites and into the realm of nosy gossip columnists is not 'keeping a low profile'. Therefore one and only one person 'outed' Valerie Plame: Valerie Plame.
As for immigrants, the Teddy Roosevelt concept works just fine for me: after 5 years if you cannot speak and write english, you go back to where you came from. He put that forward in his Kansas City speech of 1918. Sounds good to me!
