We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Our friend at Sippican Cottage has a mind-boggling photo collection. For example, last night he emailed me a photo he had of the interior of Penfield Light, which we wrote about yesterday.
Just a good top to bottom sand-blasting, replacement of piping and electrical circuits, checking all the wooden parts for rot and replacing as needed, a spot of paint covering a few thousand square feet, indoor/outdoor anti-mold and mildew carpeting... why it might almost be something one could live in. Hopefully the back-up generators work well... it does have those, I hope...
I, however, think these folks have the right idea for a really safe home: http://www.silohome.com/
Looks like a little problem there with lead paint and you might need asbestos remediation too. Love the rope railing. It has to stay, but it does have code problems. The stairs are deadly steep. I have a really old light fixture like that one that I think came off of a ferry.
Sorry to read that Sippican is sick. Get well soon Sip!
